1. Why do I get a horrible feeling that the President is going to cave on this issue?

8. Because it would be politically expedient
to cave? The polls show a majority of Americans in favor of Arizona's law.

9. If a republican wants something
he usually does. Look at the Miranda warning they are going to "fix". I don't understand why they have to have bi-partisan ship. The republicans didn't have any when they served in Bush's stolen reign.

3. The Feds should let Arizona house and feed the prisoners.
The Feds should process the prisoners through the federal courts as resources permit. Let Arizona taxpayers bear the cost of their law.

Federal policy on immigration is to a great extent dictated by the lack of financial resources for enforcing laws.

4. Reminder
Edited on Sat May-22-10 01:42 AM by OrderedChaos
Just a little reminder: Unlike the citizens of CA for Prop H8 (you know, the whole stealing away Gay Marriage thing), AZ CITIZENS DID NOT VOTE FOR THIS LAW! It was crafted in the state Congress and passed over to the Governor for her signature. Just like CA, not all AZ citizens are evil, racist, bigots like we are being painted by the oh so understanding people on this message board. We are victims of this too.

I am an unemployed (until Monday, that is - Yay!) gay, male here in Phoenix, AZ. I do not agree with a lot of things that go on in this state, and I am tired of everyone stating that I need to "Pay" for crap that politicians and sheriffs do without citizen approval. I vote to try and get rid of the people in office I don't agree with, but so far, it hasn't been effective. Unfortunately, AZ is a Red State, with a bunch of retired people, a huge and politically powerful Mormon population and 4 military bases. My hope is that this law will stick a 3 foot fire under peoples butts and get them to vote and change how things are done in this state.

The current Governor was by succession after Janet Napolitano went to DC. Hopefully, she will not be officially elected in November. Terry Goddard would be much better Governor. Either way, come 2015, she is gone. Term limits are a good thing.

Sorry for the rant and rambling, but I am tired of reading generalizations on this board. I thought that this board would be above that, but apparently, I was mistaken. Someone must be blamed, and someone must "Pay", I guess.

6. I believe most on this board have....
been sensitive to those of us fighting the good fight and have been supportive of our efforts. Your point is well taken though.

7. I'm with you, but without Janet here it's been like a bunch of little bigots in a whitey shop around
here and you know it. I've lived here all my life and even Ev Mecham wasn't this bad. Which is saying something. (OK, maybe he was this bad...) I seriously considered moving for the first time.
So I have to kinda understand people being upset/angry and piling on. It's actually a good thing.
I will stay and fight for my state because I believe there's hope. There's you and me. There's Goddard, Grijalva, and yes even Giffords. Oh, and Gordon... I'm starting to see a pattern here hmmmmm...

Anyway, there is hope, Dem registration is way up and prop 100 passed 2 to 1. Even ICE is pissed at this law and Arpaio who, by the way, has got to be pushing 80 and I don't mean the number of assassins after him.
There is hope and we will get to it.
Just so incredibly, lamely, f@#kall slow so...
I'm with ya

11. HAHAHAHAHA !!! hey Sherrif joe...
why not just make the entire state of AZ an internment camp...

As The Feds are in complete compliance of the law in allowing imigrants to remain IN the US pending a hearing. (giving "documentation" in the process.)

LOL too funny.

12. The situation is analogous to that the existed in the South.
I grew up in the deep South during the 1950s-1960s. I see a similarity to what happen throughout the South that had unconstitutional laws on the books that were popular with the ruling WASPS that prevent Blacks from voting, using public facilities and segregated education. This is a classic situation in which Arizona politicians have taken advantage of public sentiment solely for political gain. Most of those elected officials who passed this law know that it is un-constitutional.

Arpaio is little different than the sheriffs and deputies that under the guise of upholding the law took extreme measures against freedom marchers during that era to justify their prejudices. What Americans are upset and frustrated with is that we have been literally invaded with illegal immigrants because of the absolute failure of the Federal Government to enforce the laws. Our officials rather than stringently pursuing those who hire these desperate people and providing the resources to mitigate the problem have ignored it until it has become a serious problem with no easy solution. Immigration reform providing a means for citizenship coupled with strict enforcement of hiring of illegals should have been a top priority of the Obama administration. They can only blame themselves for allowing it to become a political football.
