The President announces that the independent commission he created for the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill and Offshore Drilling will be chaired by former Florida Governor and Senator Bob Graham and former EPA Administrator Bill Reilly. He promises accountability not just for BP, but for those in government who bore responsibility.

1. What Will the Commission Do
About the ongoing damage inflicted on one of the world's crown jewels of wildlife habitat now being (and likely will be for months) saturated with oil.

What is being done about the toxic dispersants that BP continues to discharge on critical habitat despite objections by the US EPA?

The Commission and its findings will dodidley squat for the real problems faced by the wildlife and the working Americans whose lives are being and will be wrecked by this disaster.

Nero fiddles while Rome burns is an apt analogy.

5. EPA approved the dispersants
and is now trying to pretend they did not.

BP killed 15 people and injured 150 others in 2005 in Texas City

BP got fined $90M in 2009 for ignoring all the findings from the 2007

BP rig creates monsterous disaster in 2010

Guess what - BP runs unsafe operations. The commission will (4 years from now) find there is no legal accountability, just like the recent findings about AIG. Meanwhile, the oil continues to flow and we are doing little about it (oh, yeah, Obama sent the justoce department down to the gulf).

All show and no action - a consistent approach from President Obama.

2. sounds like he's stalling in the hopes they can stop it and everyone's memory will be short-lived

However, Obama forgets this is a slow-motion disaster and the effects will be washing up for months, right through to the election in November. If he doesn't want to show he is angry about it, or do something overtly decisive towards correcting the situation that oil companies and permissive government oversight has allowed...( and avoid further problems down the line as another oil disaster hits, perhaps even being caused by newly-inspired terrorists), he will indeed have this impact Democrats and history, because this disaster will be sitting under our noses long enough for it to be a big problem.

This stuff sticks - big time - and any footage of that sludge will tell you that - and this isn't going away any time soon.

6. open minded or blind devotion

the commission is pointless right now. BP will destroy any evidence they want before a commission gets to it. the federal goverment must employ 10,000 engineers - none of them have any ideas how to plug a hole 5,000 feet underwater ?

My guess is we'll find some guy who had a solution a month ago, but we are too busy allowing BP to handle this and sendign the justice department to assist.

He is really blowing this one.

7. I'm open minded and it sounds like that to me

and watching Gibbs on Face the Nation today was painful. Though Gibbs was insistent, the administration is by no stretch of the imagination 'doing everything humanly possible' and to say it directly to the American people is a complete fabrication.

Frankly Gibbs was misguided for putting it in those terms, but those are his words, not mine, and he speaks for the WH.
