So posting. Pictures speak volumes - like being in a lake of thick chocolate - only it is oil & chemicals as you can plainly see.

CNN's Anderson Cooper reports from Louisiana about the lack of manpower cleaning up the oil.

CNN's Rob Marciano got a first-hand look at the devastated waters off the coast of Louisiana.

It just makes me furious. I can barely stand to look at it.

He's calling for government action, criticizing the private sector's response, and shows a real concern for the environment. When did he get a soul transplant?

As awful as this disaster is, I am hoping some good will come of it. If people like Jindal and Matlin can look at/live through this mess, it's possible they will come to their senses and change their minds.

Sometimes it takes a tragedy to wake up some folks. As they say in AA, "You've got to hit the bottom" before you're ready to change.

If he is as thick-headed as most Republicans, it will take a few more whacks to the cranium to knock some sense into him.

That said, what they should be doing is setting it on fire. Burn off the volatiles and the dead plants and animals and let it come back from the ashes.

but I understand it's not as easy as it looks. Oil has to be a certain thickness, weather conditions come into play, etc. I think I saw at least 2 burning patches yesterday, but that could have been old video.

The other problems are the underwater oil plumes, and the oil that can't be burned/skimmed because of the massive amounts of toxic dispersants.

It's hard to set stuff on fire that is still underwater. They should be out every day, a couple hours after high tide, with flame throwers. And they would have to continue doing that as long as more oil is washing ashore. It's not going to be pretty, but nothing is going to regrow until the oil is gone.

about how evil government is. He's a part of the party that said "no" to regulating the oil industry. He's a part of the party that was cheering "drill, baby, drill" at their convention 2 years ago. He is a part of the party that has been obstructionist ever since January 20, 2009 and now he's suddenly figured out that people's lives hang in the balance because of the bullshit rhetoric he has allowed himself to be pimped out on.

This is the reason why there needs to be regulation. Because when they fuck up, the tax payer--the government--has to pay to clean it up. If proper regulation was in place, this might have been stopped a long, long while ago. But because the oil industry has bought congress and congress is complicit in the lax enforcement because they allowed the oil industry to write policy, the oil companies feel that they should be able to destroy whatever it is that they want to without any consequences or repercussions.

How about this: suck up all that oil and spread it throughout BP's top executives homes and let them live day in and day out with a smelly, oily mess that they can't get rid of, since it's "not dangerous", then their children can go ahead an play to their hearts content in it. If it's safe enough for the working people of Louisiana to have to deal with, then it's safe enough for their children to ingest, breathe in and live in.

I don't see Sarah Palin down in New Orleans 'helping' or showing support as a knowledgeable oil state ex-gov. I guess she has a pretty clean 'swimmin' hole' to play in, no use in getting out & doing something that doesn't pay a speaking fee

the oil disaster isn't the only thing you can smell a mile away - hypocrites in the GOP & the teabag party are the others, although I don't know which is worse
