A dying, oil-covered baby dolphin is taken from Pensacola waters. It died shortly after being discovered.

The millions of people that never paid much attention to the biosphere are now waking up to the fact that they "Missed Out" on experiencing nature when it was reasonably healthy, and are now doomed to look upon millions of acres of diseased and dying ocean.

I hate to say it, but the Movie Soylent Green still is as scary today as when it was released. In fact, it is scarier today because the warnings contained within it are generally true about the biosphere dying.

it's amazing to me that ALL of the beaches along the GOM are not up to their eyeballs in high tech booms and whatever it takes to protect the coast line. BP doesn't give a shit and out govt. is letting them do whtever the f*** they want.

These poor animals have no where to go to escape this horror. And to think the judge has lifted the moratorium. What is wrong with people?

For all of the horror these pictures bring, I fear that this is merely the tip of the proverbial iceberg.
The insanely enormous amounts of toxic substances released into the Gulf may indeed ultimately render the Gulf a toxic site similar to Love Canal on a much, much grander scale. I don't think that this is an exaggeration.
We really don't know what will become of all this but clearly it's not just going to be "cleaned up" and pass away - it can't be.
We also understand little about the interrelationship of oceans and aquatic life throughout the world. We'll be learning much more about that in the years to come and I'm afraid it will be a hard lesson for all of us.
We just seem to be spinning out of control in so many ways.

At sweat lodge this week, an elder said we should begin to pour love into the Gulf, because so many are pouring negative thoughts out there, but it is so damned hard not to be filled with hate for BP and Cheney and the whole lot of bloated uber-wealthy who can never have enough...at the expense of "the very least of these"....
