2. This is interesting.
Whatever you think of Luntz, it's hard not to view the people in that focus group as real people, real Democrats... so it's hard to call what Luntz was getting in terms of feedback as anything but an empirical result, i.e. a fact.

Here's what I think should scare Team Hillary: A lot of people weren't watching the earlier debates. Obama's stronger now, and Hillary isn't really showing leaps and bounds improvement for her part because, as everyone likes to say, she's more "experienced". And that experience at staying relentlessly on-message is making her look canned and her answers wishy-washy, even if she is doing well in being personally appealing to people... which is good for her. Which she needs. But which is not good enough when confronted with issues of substance.

The whole Obama gamble about running for President now was not about if Obama was ready the day he decided to run; it was about how ready Obama would be as the primaries progressed. After all, it's not how the primary race starts, it's how it ends. So... as I said... this is quite interesting...

6. ...I uh, didn't post the original topic.
Did you watch at all? I don't really care what he says. But what people in the focus group, who don't look coached or paid off, say, that had me interested.

Well excuse me for caring.

12. Do we have any assurance that these people weren't coached by this Repuke asshole?
Seems to me that they are trying to play with our minds.

3. Once again..Let's not mention Kucinich...the only REAL candidate
Didn't have to wait to see how the others voted on the war funding bill. Already introduced not for profit single payer health cre ins into the house; already introduced articles of impeachment of Cheney; voted against war authorization, against FISA, aginst the Military Commissions Act, against war funding bill, against the Patriot Act, Only one who says will withdraw from WTO and get us out of NAFTA, has a troop withdrawal plan. I mean the guy is right on everything and this group doesn't even mention his name. Obama, Clinton, Edwards...but no mention of Dennis Kucinich. Watch Kucinich handle Rumsfeld at the Tillman hearings; Watch how well he handled Stephanopoulos when George did his hit piece on him on his Sunday talk show. The man is extremely impressive and his ratings have recently soared as more people get to hear his message. He so far outshines the other candidates that they would just as soon no one mentions his name because he is too good compared to the others. how do we know who got picked and included in this Democratic focus group. Maybe it was only those who were for either Clinton, Obama, or Edwards or uncommitted but excluded Kucinich supporters. How do I know what this group's gatherers had to choose from. Kucinich is the man!

5. I agree, and the way the moderator worked was disgusting
he didn't even let Kucinich weigh in on the NAFTA question and he cut those not Obama or Clinton off while letting them ramble on.

7. is this one of the discredited Frank Luntz's
production. This man has had these groups before and even though he and the buttheads at faux news report that obama did better, it is the wide range of audience and those viewing that makes the decicison. Anytime Luntz has a group of folks watching and say they are democrats, really do we know they are? I doubt serious...Now, I can extend this out to see why he has always had obama winning with his test audience. The republicans actually believe they cannot win against HRC, but can against Obama....And I have always asked this question. Who do you think the racist right wing would rather run against...HRC or Obama? why do you think there has been this influx of right wingers talking about HRC's negatives...Yep, so that fickle dems will buy into their bullshit and start repeating over and over that HRC has high negativves and cannot win....Well folks, she will win the nomination and she will win the presidency, and that you can count on....

I do thank you
Ben David

9. Don't be an idot...read this on this focus group...from TPMm
"Not for nothing, but do you have any idea who Frank Luntz is? (The guy running your focus group.) I'll give you a hint: Do the terms, "Partial Birth Abortion," "Death Tax," "Clear Skies Initiative," "Healthy Forests," "Contract with America" or "9/11 Changed Everything," ring any bells? Ever wonder who came up with those? Well, you just linked to a video of him.

Luntz has already been kicked off MSNBC and PBS after people like Media Matters got wind they had hired him to do Democratic debate analysis and raised a stink about it. But I guess a guy like him can always count on getting work over at the "Fair and Balanced" news channel, now can't he?..."

or this..."The point is that if anyone in the world knows how to finesse a focus group it's Frank Luntz. He also has a proven history of willingness to diddle with his data in pursuit of partisan ends. He is widely and rightly regarded as the top marketing mind in the Republican machine and their absolute ace framer. A smart person might regard that as a reason for a little healthy skepticism where Luntz is concerned..."

11. Luntz is Repug spinscum, and obviously has an agenda, BUT...
despite his agenda, the focus group voiced opinions that sounded very much like my own reaction to the debate. I agree with the general assesments made by this focus group- I was unsure about Obama going in and not very happy with the choices, but Obama sold me- He demonstrated an ability to defuse his critics and come off as sincere and articulate and not as a canned polititian. He showed his ability to unite opposing forces in common cause with intelligence and humor= Confident inclusive leadership, OBAMA presented himself in this debate far above the other candidates in my view. The experience question in my mind is not as important as judgment and character- he can bring into his cabinet quality advisors and a VP with foreign policy experience (ie Wesley Clark) Hilary's tacit support of washington insider lobbyists and history of supporting the washington consensus is a non-starter for me. The other choices don't seem to have the whole package- although I liked their individual responses in some cases.
