1. Exactly!
George Carlin is so trenchant.

That was a nice overlay to his show, BTW.

Nothing to see here. Move on!

11. I wondered if I was the only person watching BOSTON LEGAL! This show
routinely stabs fun at Bushco and it is a hoot to watch too. Thanks

23. Thanx for the warm welcome DUers
I'm from the UK and have been following the Political Video Forum here for some 2-3 months now.
Many of my colleagues (both political and professional)had derided any chance of the good people of the US rising up and saying no to the diktats of the Fascist Corporate Loons incumbent in your present admin.
Me? I knew that their time was limited. I knew that the peoples of both South and North America would one day wake up as a whole to expose the lies and greed of those who should not be.
Ok, we haven't reached the tipping point yet. Far from it. But...at least I can now communicate with my friends that there are those on the other side of the pond who are prepared to take on the power-mongers without fear or recrimination.

I salute you all.

Thank You

3. Excellent video....
Every time I see that DiTech commercial, "people are smart"....I go OUT OF MY FUCKING MIND! :banghead: NO, people are STUPID! If they were smart, moronic commercials like that wouldn't WORK on people! As soon as the commercials come on the TV I hit the "MUTE" button so I don't have to listen to the bullshit they try to sell me.

We are a nation of sheep, and until everyone wakes up we'll continue to have the type of society and government we presently have. CONSUME, CONSUME, CONSUME! :grr:

10. Hit the mute button ........lol.
It's not quite so bad in the UK. Despite the fact the crafty bastards who run all of of the cable channels have ads at the same time at least we've got the good 'ol BBC to all back on - no ads whatsoever !

17. You are watching TV?
That is something to think about, ey? When you give it up and part with your favorite shows it is only a matter of time before you start to see that the benefits of ditching the habit outweigh the perceived value of worshiping or paying homage at the electronic, alpha-wave altar.

Of course, you could point-out the minority of channels that offer something useful or informative. But then, one could argue that books, DVDs, the Internet, and other people even, can quickly fill that void and even allow you more discernment.

Beware though. Once you go for a while without hearing and seeing those constant inducements to buy what you really don't need to make you happy, they can become even more annoying and obnoxious than they seemed to be. One easily has no tolerance for commercial television and radio after getting away from their endless soapbox. You feel less like a consumer and more like a living being whose real purpose is to actually live a life, first and foremost, not just watch something. After all, entertainment is somebody else's trip.

As for calling people STUPID. I agree that segments of our population appear to be largely ill-informed and poorly educated. However, that problem does not have to be framed in a condescending way. It sounds more like oneupmanship and elitism and fails to address the reason why they appear so.

If you look at human intelligence as inherit and consider that we all possess access, (to varying degrees of course) to a multi-million-year-old bio-computer that has brought us through the long corridors of nature's and history's most grueling epochs and ages. I think people have great potential to be enlightened, so to speak. Of course, that takes willingness, as well.

"However, that problem does not have to be framed in a condescending way. It sounds more like oneupmanship and elitism and fails to address the reason why they appear so".

Now, who's being condescending and attempting "oneupmanship"? :eyes:

20. I take it is is clear
that my comment was not directed at you as you seem to be taking it out of context.

The fact that I agreed with your post in my first comment, and then elucidated on that in relation to television watching and the innate intelligence of being human does not seem to be denigrating as far aa I understand it.

Maybe you could pull back, reread those two sentences in context, and potentially see a more general perspective, rather than as a personal attempt to appear or be superior.

I don't think you are the only one to refer to people as generally stupid and would hope that the incessant repetition of that observation is obvious. Hence, I suggest that such references may be in error or have ulterior motives.

My apologies if your resulting reaction was different from my intent.

4. Sadly, I Have Found This To Be Oh So True!!!
It really will take a revolution. And even then after the system is taken down, it will remain true. Like the song by 'The Who', "The new bosses wil become like the old bosses."

Carlin hits it out of the park with this one. I wish more people would wake up to this reality.

16. Some don't know, some don't want to know and some can't know
because they are under-educated and working their butts off just trying to keep a roof over their heads and provide food and health care their families. Personally, my contempt is directed a the ones who don't want to know because it is inconvenient.

19. Is there a version I could download?
I'd like to show this to a few people who are still focused on getting Democrats elected, which in my opinion is a waste of time. I've only recently come to this conclusion because I didn't want to believe what Carlin says.

22. Three appropriate quotes on the dumbing of America
"You can't build a democracy on the foundations of ignorance"
Thomas Jefferson

"An intelligent people is ungovernable"
I heard it from French film maker, Claude Autant Lara, but I believe it's older than that.

Then there's also Edward L. Bernays, who began it all at the beginning of the last century and is responsible for molding of our consumer society.

Propaganda by Edward L. Bernays - BuzzFlash Review
"The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country."
