The NAACP just posted the full video of Shirley Sherrod's speech in front of the Coffee County NAACP this past March.

The relevant part starts about 16 minutes in. Sherrod is talking about how her father was killed by a white man when she was 17; that night, she says, she made a commitment to stay in the South and work toward change.

She says that she was only thinking about black people when she made that commitment. But God had other plans, she said.

"You realize the struggle is really about poor people," she said, and then tells about "the first time I was faced with having to help had to help a white farmer save his farm."

Once you get past the part shown in the Big Government clip, Sherrod goes on to say that that white farmer experienced an obstacle she had never seen: He was blocked from filing bankruptcy, and his farm was foreclosed on. The lawyer, she says, had told the farmer he should just give up the farm.

As Sherrod tells it, she intervened and found the farmer a lawyer who could help him.

"Working with him made me see that it's really about those who have versus those who don't. They could be black, they could be white, they could be Hispanic. And it made me realize then that I needed to work to help poor people, those who don't have access the way others have," she says.

God Damn the corrosive right wing fucks who distorted this woman's wonderful, heartfelt story of reconciliation. She must be restored to her rightful position ... with an Oval Office visit and a parade.

12. Right there with you, Tx4obama
And the president of the NAACP should apologize and resign. His behavior mirrored Vilsack's.

9. I've been reading (and commenting) on the CBS website...
and am appalled at the racists comments being made by many people on that board who just, no matter how you try to point out the true context of Ms. Sherrod's speech, just cannot see it. Ms. Sherrod is correct in saying that "...400 years later" we are still seeing the same thing she experienced when her father was murdered. If some of the people on that board understood what it must have been like having a group of angry people come onto their front lawn and lynch their family members simply because of the color of their skin, they probably would have a whole different attitude. But Ms. Sherrod, no matter the horror she and her family experienced, came through it learning an entirely different lesson. She's an amazing woman and she should get her job back with an apology.

11. This was a great, informative, deep speech--
no wonder Breitbart edited all this out of context, because otherwise, there would have been so much about recognizing that the goal was economic and social justice regardless of race because we're all the same, and personal and financial responsibility because we all face the same issues, that people would maybe get the impression from her speech that she was a wise person who knew what she was talking about and maybe overcame racism by realizing how useless it was to hate. And what she really was about was against every little thing Breitbart finds useful for his conservative causes.

In other words, he sucks. And she pretty much rules.
