Beck's incendiary angst is dangerously close to having a body count
July 27, 2010 7:54 am ET by Eric Boehlert

On his Monday radio show, Glenn Beck http://mediamatters.org/mmtv/201007260025">highlighted claims that before he started targeting a little-known, left-leaning organization called the Tides Foundation on his Fox News TV show, "nobody knew" what the non-profit was.

Indeed, for more than a year Beck has been portraying the progressive organization as a central player in a larger, nefarious cabal of Marxist/socialist/Nazi Obama-loving outlets determined to destroy democracy in America. Beck has http://mediamatters.org/rd?to=http%3A%2F%2Ftpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com%2F2010%2F07%2Forganization_targeted_by_anti-govt_ca_shooting_suspect_was_frequent_topic_on_glenn_becks_show_video.php%23more">routinely smeared the low-profile entity for being staffed by "thugs" and "bullies" and involved in "the nasty of the nastiest," like indoctrinating schoolchildren and creating a "mass organization to seize power."

http://mediamatters.org/blog/201007230022">As Media Matters reported, the conspiratorial host had mentioned (read: attacked) the little-known progressive organization nearly 30 times on his Fox program alone since it premiered in 2009, including several mentions in the last month. (http://mediamatters.org/blog/201007230022">Beck's the only TV talker who regularly references the foundation, according to our Nexis searches.)

So yes, Beck has done all he can to scare the hell out of people about the Tides Foundation and "turn the light of day" onto an organization that actually facilitates non-profit giving.

And guess what? Everybody in America would have found out about the Tides Foundation last week if Byron Williams had had his way. He's the right-wing, government-hating, gun-toting nut who strapped on his body armor, stocked a pickup truck with guns and ammo, and set off up the California coast to San Francisco in order to start killing employees at the previously obscure Tides Foundation in hopes of http://mediamatters.org/rd?to=http%3A%2F%2Farticles.sfgate.com%2F2010-07-21%2Fnews%2F21991372_1_chp-officers-body-armor-san-francisco">sparking a political revolution.

1. Williams' notebook
'The FBI joined Oakland police in investigating the incident because a notebook, titled "California,"
was found in Williams' car and removed by a bomb squad robot, investigators said. Authorities did not reveal its contents.'

2. legally when does his "speech" stop being protected? he really is inciting violence
I caught him the other evening . . I normally never watch, but the shocking (to me) moronic opinions of some old classmates on Facebook--people I thought were too intelligent to be taken in by right-wing hysteria about supposed "socialism"- left me so flabbergasted I thought I'd check to see what exactly he was saying.

I felt sort of like someone waking up from a coma to find out that everyone around them had been brainwashed. There was a near hysterical rage well up in me as I watched in increasing disbelief, thinking, Holy Mother of God. HE'S A FUCKING LYING DIABOLICAL MANIAC WHO IS INCITING VIEWERS TO REVOLUTION. The whole show was about him and his FUCKING BOOTS, which he showed off by propping his legs up on the desk, and how our republic was "over," presumably because we passed the watered down financial regulation bill.

It was so insane I'd almost think he co-wrote it with Colbert. He said, he refused to take his boots off, "ever." It was beyond parody. Did he purposefully mean to invoke the image of jackbooted thugs by calling all of his viewers to buy and wear those boots?

OTOH, I certainly supported the civil disobedience during Bush and admire the folks doing it now re the ongoing wars. We certainly felt that Jefferson's admonitions were valid during Bush's illegal regime, but Beck's thinly veiled call for violence wouldn't fool a 10-year-old.

4. I don't think of Beck's personality or consider
how crazy he is, because this looks more like a script and that he is an actor doing a rather good job at playing a part.

When strange rhetoric like this, (and in times like this) is disseminated in a propaganda fashion by a station known for its massaging message for those who don't see it as the Simulation, one has to question the motives of the people behind the curtain, not the clown on the stage. This stuff is being aired and that's the point.

At this stage in the game, it is possible that the system itself will incite violence, (since vast numbers of people are either too tired, too misinformed or willfully ignorant, or too scared to act) and that could be rather convenient for the military-industrial-corporate-police state that is rising like dense sewer gasses around us now. They are erecting a vast and sturdy economic wall that is both conceptual and, more and more so, tangible.

If it does go that way, (does a pot on the stove boil?) that's an end game scenario of the class war.

6. Beck's boots-
I would guess this whole thing about boots was some kind of allusion to 'dying with his boots on'.
