I don't get asking someone on then talking over them. What's the point? If they make no sense let the audience figure out for themselves what is wrong.

62. Whatever...
So Cooper should just allow this fucking goober to spout complete nonsense on his show. I mean come on! Sleeper babies? Its beyond fucking stupid. There is now an extremist agenda to attack the 14th amendment of the constitution. I'm not totally clear on the reason for it (xenophobia of some sort I am sure) but it has become very obvious that this is now a part of the racist fear mongering Republican platform.

Hell yes!

It used to be that folks seriously wringing their hands over "the end times" would be laughed at and mocked (as they should). Now we've got them in the figgin' SENATE! We've got people high up (like president) who think that god himself has called them to serve (him, apparently, not the country). IMHO, this is completely unacceptable and scary. (Think: The Family and C-Street House!) We need adults who can think clearly and logically in high places!

The lack of critical thinking and the embracing of "gut" and anti-intellectualism in the populous is how this happens. (I say, if you feel small and looked down upon by "know-it-alls", then go learn something yourself so you can "look down", if you want, on them. Or at lest be at the same level.) Religion plays a huge role in dumbing down.

Dummies get taken advantage of.

59. I live on a continent where science is taken seriously.
Watching what goes on from "across the pond" has to be very disturbing for expats, as their realities are quite different. Europe and Japan didn't involve themselves to any great degree with Bush's "coalition" because of their own historical perspective. Unfortunately, the US is choosing to learn the hard way.

which is where I am, and will be for the indefinite future, pending the direction the US is headed in. I'm not hopeful at this point. What I see broadcast from stateside keeps getting worse. I agree with Stephen Hawking's sentiment about moving to outer space within the next two centuries, or else we're "toast." I feel that way about the US now. You have to wonder at what point to lose hope. Anderson's spending a good ten minutes trying to "discuss" with a raving maniac becoming SOP for the networks is, as you said, scary. On the other hand, let's hope Anderson's deliberation in trying to give the mongrel a chance to articulate and make sense, how ever unsuccessful, will hit a sensible nerve with the voting public.

21. The problem may be premature-announciation
I recall how the intelligent leadership of the Bush administration didn't listen to Richard Clarke and everyone thought he was a loony and then we had 9/11.
We have over 12 million southern immigrants here illegally which shows the failure of the DHS a decade later, and if we had the 9/11 students in the country,
why is it so hard to believe they've been entering also from the south and porous north also ? They say it's easier to cross from Canada than Mexico. I'm
fairly liberal but I am concerned about becoming a minority in my own country.
I personally think it's a good plan, just not sure if they have the patience to wait that long. But then again, look at how much money it takes for us to pay
for the millions of illegals who are here now. Maybe he means they will come back and bankrupt us ? LOL - that line was a joke.

27. Yes I do
But I'm not a politically correct person, I speak my mind. That said, I grew up in a black neighborhood, I hire minorities who seem to only want to do the work Americans refuse to do, and I have house guests who are of all nationalities. The best for me was four months ago when my bro-in-law who is Jewish was here playing guitars with my friend Baha who is Palestinian.
I'm not a bigot, I'm an old hippie so I live and let live. It's those who misconstrue comments for something they aren't. I'm just saying with the economy and poor health-care reform we just can't sustain more people in this country at this time. Why is it bad for me to want us to get on the way to economic independence before we pay out to people who are here illegally when our own are in need of help ?
Do you know the punishment for crossing into Mexico or other countries ? Try it and let me know if I can bail you out of their horrible jails.
That's all I was saying.

41. Why do people think invoking anti-"political correctness" excuses offensive behavior?
If I declare I'm not politically correct would you smile and congratulate me for calling you an idiot? Is it OK if I insult you as long as I do it as a blow against political correctness?

Political correctness is tolerance for and sensitivity to the views of others. Declaring yourself not politically correct is just a polite hair's breadth away from calling yourself a bigot.

I must not be coming across the way I feel, but I assure you I am not a bigot. I just can't believe people are OK with people to enter the country illegally. When one of them assassinates someone or blows up something, maybe then you'll understand it has nothing to do with anything but security.

51. I don't know you so If you say you're not a bigot I believe you ...
... but if you say something offensive you might not want to run to anti-political correctness as a defense.

Anyway, no one is saying it's OK to enter the country illegally. What we're saying is that the constitution shouldn't be changed just because one can imagine some possible plot, for which there is no evidence, 20 years in the future.

That kind of thinking can eliminate every right in the bill of rights one by one.

Of all the assassinations and murders that take place, why is one committed by an illegal alien singled out? AFAIK, no illegal aliens have ever blown anything up, or attempted to blow anything up. Got any examples? Kind of begs the security question. Of course if one were to happen, that would get all the attention.

Have you ever thought to question the conventions attached to political boundaries? Is crossing a boundary a moral issue to you? What if you're on the other side? You should ask yourself that more.

56. That's hypothetical but
Mexico's elite families are doing the same there that they are doing here. Making and hoarding their money instead of creating industry and jobs. So if I were on the other side of the fence I would hope I have the same morals and values I have now not to break the law. If those who are waiting to do it without violating our laws, then all should follow suit.
The 9/11 hijackers didn't overstay their visas ? I thought they did ? Correct me if I'm wrong please. TY

69. You are on to something there.
Borders and the rules around them change frequently. And whose needs do they satisfy?

Let's have a bit of perspective about borders and perhaps, exceptionalism. We righteously stole this land from its original inhabitants, and became a power on the backs of our African slaves until that business moved south of our borders. We achieved economic domination because the Europeans destroyed each other, and we took out the Japanese. We have exploited resources all over the world. So we have it pretty good here, behind our fences, between raids. Who benefits? Whose interests are served? You say both elites do the same things. There's a clue.

It might be good to think about the history and purpose of borders more profoundly.

As far as I know, the hijackers were here legally (and all of the other threats, as well.) They might have overstayed their visas. Different subject.

The people you are targeting, are not terrorists, they are here to do the hard work that enrich our own elites. They value work over having their family starve. What's immoral? Not stepping over the line?

70. That's part of what I'm saying
They pay these poor people below minimum wage, how do they expect them to survive ? But the bigger problem is the new slave labor that includes all of us who are not wealthy. Corporations have everyone working harder with less people and pay lower wages with less increases if any. And no one is saying anything for fear of losing their jobs or they will be out on the streets. Modern slavery; that includes all.

44. Treatment is'nt the issue
Committing a crime is the issue. There are millions waiting patiently to enter the legal way. If someone is willing to break the law do you really want that mindset personality living here ? The drug cartels are behind many of them to help develop their criminal activity here. There are already drug gangs and murders going on just inside the US border from Laredo. Do we just allow this to happen until Americans are killed in numbers which is already happening ? What kind of example is that for their children also ? I just seem to look at things logically I guess. Like I said, I'm a peace loving old hippie but we have to stop thinking we can afford everyone from around the world.

They were living here spying, working at places like Microsoft for years and ended in a spy swap.
Was the FBI on the news touting it BEFORE they were arrested ? No, and we all understand why, right ?
So my take on this guy is he's trying to sound the alarm about the DHS which is a fiasco. They took FEMA
under their belt and other independent agencies and bankrupted them by drawing funds from them into other wasteful
lucrative adventures for their friends like formaldehyde trailers for Katrina victims. I can understand where

First off, US representatives tend to travel in private or military planes when traveling overseas. Second, even if he was on an airplane with a hamas supporter, why didn't he even bother to warn an air marshall? And third, this reminds me of all the right-wing a-holes who keep witnessing welfare fraud, yet don't bother to report it to the fed, which is done in order to give an excuse to abolish that program.

In short, this evidence is just BS and defies all logic.

35. what he is defining as a Hamas supporter might very well have been
(if this conversation actually took place) was a Middle Eastern person who might have had a more nuanced view about Hamas (which would be fairly common among Middle Eastern people)than what one generally would hear in the American media. That is a far cry from being a Hamas terrorist - just as someone from Latin America might have had a more nuanced view about a Marxist guerrilla organization. In either case such conversations would be common discussion in some parts of the world - but hardly represents terrorist cells plotting attacks on America.

36. Wow, wow, and wow!! Is that guy for real?
Gohmert is a total nut case. Does he actually believe what he's saying, or is he that good of an actor? These right wingers are seriously frightening. They're literally trying to start a mass panic in this country. They're lunatics. He's another crackpot from Texas. I think it's time we gave Texas back to Mexico. Of course we would give all Texans who are currently American citizens the option of retaining their citizenship, except that guy, Gohmert. I vote for turning him over to the drug cartel.

47. Gohmert is what happens when true progressives lack enthusiasm and
stay home from the polls. Liberals probably outnumber conservatives and so-called moderates in this country, but they are not as motivated to vote as the insane right wing voters are. If the Obama administration would reach out to the progressives isntead of bashing them at every opportunity, that might do a lot to motivate liberals to go to the polls to defeat these RW whackadoodles.

55. Gohmert is a Goober
For those of you too young to understand the term:

Goober is a slang term for peanut; it may be used to informally refer to a person who is acting silly or funny. Used in common language as, "Martyna is acting like such a goober!"

By extension, it may also mean:

* Goobers, a brand name of chocolate-coated peanut
* Goober (brand), a food product combining peanut butter and fruit preserves

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goober

Also

"Goober" is an Americanization of the West African Kongo language word "Nguba", meaning Peanut. "Goober Peas" is another variation of this term, and may have provided the inspiration for the character's original name. Goober was the cousin of Gomer Pyle who was initially often referred to by Gomer, but never seen until his appearance in the episode "Fun Girls," which was the only episode in which the two appeared together, although he would later appear in an episode of Gomer Pyle, USMC.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goober_Pyle

Apparently there is also a Reconstruction Era Civil War song that was popular in the South called "Eating Goober Peas."

Gohmert really acts like a goober. I suspect it really is an act because a person who really was the way he acts surely could not organize a campaign and get elected to Congress, not even in backwoods Texas. This has to be an act, a show put on for the public. I just don't believe this man. Sorry to make an ad hominem comment, but Gohmert is really funny.
