1. "A Strong Military for a New Century," link for text below
http://www.cfr.org/publication/13432/

"With these steps, we can begin to rebuild an American military for a new century.

First, we must clarify the mission of a post-Bush, post-9/11, post-Iraq American military for the 21st century.

We must be clear about when it is appropriate for a commander-in-chief to use force. As president, I will only use offensive force after all other options including diplomacy have been exhausted, and after we have made efforts to bring as many countries as possible to our side. However, there are times when force is justified: to protect our vital national interests...to respond to acts of aggression by other nations and non-state actors...to protect treaty allies and alliance commitments...to prevent terrorists from acquiring nuclear weapons...and to prevent or stop genocide."

2. I wish someone would, in plain English. explain precisely what "our" "National Interests" are.
I just have a real hard time not thinking that these purported "national interests" are actually nothing more than the interests of the Ruling Elite, and have absolutely NOTHING to do with MY interests.

And I'm saying this as someone who would vote for Edwards if he gets the Dem nomination.

3. Agree, I guess one could say these interests are oil, water etc.

and that we need to control these instead of other countries to remain the dominant power. What we have seen over the past several years are countries making deals with one another for resources and our country invading Iraq and ?...for control of resources. In addition our companies, and certain people, are making a killing from killing.

But that seems to be OK with many citizens as they will vote for people who have approved of these actions?

And then in this speech we need a 'strong military for A New American Century'

"With these steps, we can begin to rebuild an American military for a new century."

Those words, changed slightly, remind me of another doctrine :(

4. I'd really like to see a "new century" of us not bombing the shit out of every 3rd World country
that the MIC has decided is not cooperating sufficiently with the 1st World exploitation of their resources.

5. Me too! I hate to think of the blowback we are leaving for future
generations, not to mention the destruction of lives and the environment.
