WELLINGTON, Dec 29 (Bernama) -- An earthquake measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale struck off the Pacific island country of Vanuatu on Wednesday, Xinhua news agency quoted the United States Geological Survey as saying.

The quake, which occurred at 05:54 p.m. Vanuatu local time (06: 54 GMT), was centered 215 km south of Port Vila, capital city of Vanuatu, and at a depth of 31 km.

There were no reports of casualties or damage so far.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre in Hawaii has not issued a tsunami warning.
