The Republicans had controlled the governor's seat for 16 years before Strickland was elected governor, controlled the state House and Senate and held every elected cabinet position for 14 of those 16 years.
What do Ohio voters do? They turn the state back over to the party that created the mess in the first place.
Strickland was also a psychiatrist for a state maximum security prison and had to do a juggling act getting elected to Congress from a district that is very rural and conservative. He understands people, unlike his successor John Kasich, who has this "I'm getting mine, you go screw yourself" approach to everything. I felt Strickland's policies were moving Ohio in the right direction in economic development and education, but it was going to take some time to reverse what years of bad management and scandals had done.
I'm afraid that Ohio will get thrown back to the Stone Age by the time Kasich is done in 2014.
