3. Barca makes the point I wanted to make
If I defied a court order from a judge I would be instantly remanded into custody and have to sit in jail (and likely released on a bond).

5. That sure looks like a "palace guard" to me
How can those officers enforce the lockout while cognizant of the fact that they're acting against a court order?

Who do they serve? The law or just one man?

11. Wasn't there a President who once said
"let the courts enforce their edict" or something like that?

I say let the cops play palace guard. For a week.

That's a lot of nails in Governor Walker's political coffin.

20. Andrew Jackson, re: The Indian (Cherokee) Removal Act...
in the case of Worcester vs. Georgia (1832) the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Cherokee. The Supreme Court this time ruled that the Cherokee Nation was sovereign thus making the removal laws invalid. The decision, rendered by Justice John Marshall, declared the forced removal of the Cherokee Nation to be illegal, unconstitutional and against treaties made. President Andrew Jackson, who had the executive responsibility of enforcement of the laws, stated, "John Marshall has made his decision; let him enforce it now if he can."

http://www.allthingscherokee.com/articles_culture_events_020201.html

Of course, Jackson's deliberate refusal to enforce the judgement led ultimately to the shame that was the Trail of Tears and the Cherokee's belief that Jackson was the worst President this country has ever had. I'm inclined to agree with the Cherokee.

25. Jackson was a racist genocidal thug.
The fact that he is lauded as some kind of paragon of public virtue is nauseating.

13. All of the people there should have gone to the judge who issued the order.
They should have all told that judge that the Governor was defying his order to let the people in.

14. Awesome video! Obey said he will not go inside to meeting if taxpayers aren't allowed in!
Edited on Thu Mar-03-11 01:17 AM by pacalo
And I believe he's going to the courthouse to give a statement about his experience in trying to get in. On his way to the entrance, he was stopped by state police, who told the former U.S. congressman he would have to get in line. Congressman's meeting had begun while he was standing outside.

I believe Walker is going to have to answer for his defiance of the court order.

hasn't had the police arrest Walker for ignoring the court order. And I'm beginning to love Obey who is standing up for our rights like politicians we elect are supposed to do!

Edited on Thu Mar-03-11 09:52 AM by cognoscere
Their job is to legislate for the people of Wisconsin - not two assholes in Kansas. Their holding out in Rockford, or wherever, is the only thing keeping Hosni Walker and his gang of operatives from cramming through some really nasty laws against Wisconsinites.

23. Walker may have issued the order to Superintendent Fitzgerald, but
Edited on Thu Mar-03-11 12:42 PM by tsuki
I feel it is the Superintendent that is defying the court order. Why do we not hear more about the Fitzgerald cabal? Too much political and police powers are held by that family. Scott, Jeff and Stephen Fitzgerald are drink deep of the taxpayer monies while they want to fleece other public employees. Time for the Fitzgerald family to do what they advocate for other Wisconsinites, get a job and quit living off the taxpayer. Oh, I forgot, they are important making a vital contribution, police, firefighters, nurses and teachers are parasites.

Do I need the sarcasm simile?

PS. Hey Fitzgerald, following the Governor's directive rather than the law is not a valid defense.

24. Scott Walker is a godsend and here's why
Edited on Thu Mar-03-11 01:53 PM by NCcoast
I posted this yesterday at Dailykos in response to a post about a group of protesters who were admitted to the Governor's speech. I think it bears repeating here.

Frankly I think Scott Walker is a godsend. He's a vaccine against fascism. A weakened strain of the virus to build the body's immune system.

To serve his own ambitions he's picked the wrong fight, with the wrong people in the wrong place. And he has finally done what I had begun to think could not be done. He has woken up the real silent majority in America and brought them to their feet.

All of his maneuvering to create this 'crisis' is completely transparent. He's clearly lying about, well, everything. And everyone knows it. The propaganda machine at Fox and elsewhere has the impossible task of painting some of the nicest, most polite and well behaved people on earth as unruly thugs and radicals. Good luck with that. While the mainstream media forces itself to ignore one of the biggest stories in 50 years (juxtaposed to their slavish promotion of the astroturf tea party movement) clearly exposing their corporate servitude and lack of any credibility as an unbiased news source.

And the prank phone call. What a moment! The Koch brothers as the great and powerful OZ now exposed for everyone to see.

This is a catastrophic train wreck for the GOP playing out in excruciatingly slow motion so everyone can see every horrific detail.

Now this piece of of strong arm, Soviet era like theater, marching in the disoriented and uninformed opposition as props to sit in silence while the good citizens cheer for dear leader. You couldn't ask for a more discussing display.

Rock on Scott Walker. You are a magnificent turd.
