The music video for the song which was directed by Michael Moore, features the band playing in front of the New York Stock Exchange, intercut with scenes from a satire of the popular television game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire which is named "Who Wants to Be Filthy F#&%ing Rich". Quoted at the end of the song is Republican politician Gary Bauer stating that, "a band called 'The Machine Rages On' - er - 'Rage Against the Machine', that band is anti-family and it's pro-terrorist".

Sleep Now In The Fire

Dear friends,

My first video for the band "Rage Against the Machine" has been nominated as "Best Rock Video of the Year" by MTV. The annual MTV Video Music Awards will be telecast live from Radio City Music Hall on September 7. The video is for the song, "Sleep Now In the Fire", and is infamous for the band's performance across from the New York Stock Exchange (which they succeeded in forcing the place to lock its doors during the middle of the trading day) and the police detaining yours truly for an hour until I persuaded them to keep my 100% no-arrest record intact.

maybe that's what needs to happen, millions of protesters need to occupy and shut down Wall Street until the anti-worker Governers resign and legislation is passed requiring a surtax on millionaires, getting rid of oil subsidies and closing loopholes that allow corporations trillions of dollars in offshore tax haves and evade paying taxes.
