We have seen a lot of bonds of solidarity forged and strengthened over the last three weeks in Madison, between union and non-union workers, protesters and police, teachers and students, Madisonians and out-staters, even Wisconsinites and Illinoisians (!!). Today was the day to break down the rural-urban divide, and pull people toward the common cause. I love especially going into Madison and watching students and visitors to Madison make a connection with the state's farmers. (It happens every Saturday in the growing season through the amazing farmer's market.) But this reached an even deeper level on Saturday.

12. That's Tony Schultz. He was speaking on behalf of Family Farm Defenders and he was absolutely
on fire yesterday. I was looking for a video with a bit better sound quality and hopefully one that has all of the speakers Family Farm Defenders brought on. They were all awesome. Not to take away from our Fabulous 14, but the AM rally really kicked ass, content wise, compared to the afternoon. They really fired the crowd up for the remainder of the day.

7. The Republicans once again have underestimated the impact
of their decisions.

If you read all of the blogs they have their paid posters trying to plant the seed that the enthusiasm will wane, that the non-union workers have nothing in common with the union workers etc. They are playing their same game of divide and conquer......I suggest that something is different this time around....

I suggest that by openly showing their hand in several states that many citizens have finally gotten it that this is a coordinated effort to make the U.S a third world country. The farmers have been fighting agri-businesses for years in an uneven fight.......and for the most part they have been fighting by themselves. Now they have found solidarity.....

Solidarity will destroy the Republicans because they only win when we are divided. This is what happened last November.....yes, I acknowledge the President hasn't been perfect but I also say that because of who he is it has allowed more Americans to see exactly what the Republican Plan is for America.

If you have not read Naomi Kleins book "The Shock Doctrine", ....go to your library and pick it up.....wake up....this is the culmination of 30 years of destroying America.....by the Republicans.

26. All They Have
Repubs = Old, white, angry, racist, homophob, shove their brand of repub Christianity in our faces voters They are trying to bring back the 1950s and early 1960s (I am white)

Anyone who is not rich (billionaire) and votes for the repubs is a total fool! (Let's not forget that race plays a part too)

27. Don't forget
How many progressives were duped starting with Reagan? They thought they were voting for Guns, God and Gays. They have allowed this to happen. Let's hope they have finally gotten it through their heads who these repubs really are.

How's it feel to be duped these past 30 years?

18. That guy and the rest of the farmers need to mobilize RURAL Wisconsin to vote DEMOCRATIC.
For the life of me, it is DEMOCRATS who get services to the rural areas, and yet these people overwhelmingly vote RePUKE in most rural areas. We need to win these people back. How? Show them how it feels to decimate rural schools, rural roads, rural public safety services, and rural mail delivery at the national level. Then see if they still like RePUKEland.

22. That's not your typical farmer!!
Edited on Sun Mar-13-11 08:37 PM by bulloney
He's obviously not a member of the Farm Bureau or any of its puppet RW commodity organizations.

If he was, he'd be in lockstep with Gov. Walker and supporting his stripping of collective bargaining rights and other programs.

I know a lot of farmers and the overwhelming majority of them are cheering on the movement to take down collective bargaining rights in states around the country, not realizing that it will ultimately be to their demise, because when they take down the unions, it's a matter of time before they'll come after the farmers and eliminate the programs that they depend on. And there won't be anyone around to stand beside them when that happens.

I have had numerous conversations with farmers who rant against people benefiting from some type of government programs. Then, you look at the Environmental Working Group's website, you find that these same people are among the top recipients, if not the top recipient, of federal farm program payments in their counties. Hypocrites!! In addition, I know a few who supplement their farms with off-farm income with taxpayer-funded jobs ranging from township trustee, to county commissioner to postal carriers. I guess they think it's OK for them to have their faces in the government trough. I think most of the township trustees in the county where I live are farmers who run for the position to receive the health insurance and retirement benefits--paid for by taxpayers.

23. Farmers against Agribusiness
I love it. So many of the farm policies benefit the huge factory farms and put the smaller farms out of business, yet I would rather eat food from these small farmers.

He was great!

25. I was in love with so many of those farmers going by
thanks for the video. I could hear the speeches but not see the stage or the speakers.

I loved it when the crowd chanted "THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!" to the farmers and they rode or walked by.

32. This farmer makes me want to protest for a democracy we are losing
Scott Walker is reaping the whirlwind. If it come be done again, I would still wish worker's collective bargaining was not tampered with.

But since Walker went after workers, we can see if elected Democrats believe in our party's platform.

Obama has a lot to manage, but he has less than credible on this issue.
