8. Uh... lots of folks WITH vaginas oppose Planned Parenthood, too.
This commercial makes it seems as if the only opponents of Planned Parenthood are men -- men who are soon going to be punished for that by getting their nooky supply cut off.

But although I have no vagina, I have always been in favor of Planned Parenthood and Choice and the ERA and all sorts of pro-woman issues. Meanwhile, some of the most virulent anti-choice, anti-Planned Parenthood advocates I know are themselves women. This includes my own mother and ex-wife who, although otherwise liberal, were violently anti-choice.

So what I'm wondering is... do I have any extra nooky coming for being on the right side all along?

11. Why would any woman oppose birth control or sexual health for women?
Edited on Wed Mar-16-11 08:50 PM by defendandprotect
Yes -- we've heard about these virulent "anti-choice" women --

who none the less use birth control -- and give their daughters birth control --

who seek abortions themselves in between picketing women's clinics -- and who

seek abortions for their daughters when necessary!!

This is simply a question about funding and providing care for women -- not about

the few women who don't see the need until they absolutely need help!

And keep in mind, just as many Catholic women as any other women have abortions --

In Ireland this means they have to travel to the UK -- and they do it !!

And, Hispanic Catholics support simple choice re abortion by 53% -- and even higher

percentages for reasons like rape, incest, risks to health of mother -- etal.

If our corporate press wasn't trying so hard to hide the reality of abortion and

support for bith control most people would know these things. Rather, corporate-press

has turned reality upside down by concentrating on the noisy few. Same with every

other issue! That's what they're there to do!

because there are right wing whacko women that think every sperm cell is a blessed, sacred, potential future person that can be indiscriminately thrown in to a war or slave labor once they become a real person. That's why. The Michelle Bachmann

GOP DC Congressional delegate candidate accuses Planned Parenthood staff of witchcraft

http://dailycaller.com/2010/10/25/gop-dc-congressional-delegate-candidate-accuses-planned-parenthood-staff-of-witchcraft/

Washington, D.C., Republican congressional delegate candidate Missy Reilly Smith said she is going to move her graphic pro-life advertisements from local broadcast television to cable network television on Wednesday for the final six days of the campaign.

Smith said she plans to run her ads, which feature grotesque images of aborted fetuses and their bloody body parts, eight times a day on cable television from Wednesday through the Election Day on Tuesday. Her advertisements are so graphic that YouTube removed them from its site, but because of equal time election advertising provisions, broadcast outlets are required to give her the option of buying time.

Smith said she’s also highly opposed to organizations like Planned Parenthood.

“The more that you’re involved in this organization the more demonic you realize it is,” Smith said. “Many of the employees of Planned Parenthood and abortion mills, the actual killing centers, the employees are actual witches. They belong to Wiccan and there’s nothing more valuable to Satan than the blood of innocent babies.”

Look up Margaret Sanger.

Aren't there other organizations that have arisen without PP's disgusting taint?

Also, what about Feminists for Life? They're pro-life but they also support contraception and other aspects of women's health. <--- I ain't taking sides, I'm just asking about what people think of them.

16. What about "Feminists for Life."
http://www.feministsforlife.org/FAQ/index.htm#contraception
Feminists for Life advocates practical resources and support to address the unmet needs of pregnant women and parents. Preconception issues are outside FFL’s mission. Feminists for Life members and supporters hold a broad spectrum of opinions regarding preconception issues, and FFL welcomes anyone committed to working alongside us in our shared mission.

Go on Google and look for a Women's Health clinic in your area. Only the Planned Parenthood clinics provide contraception supplies.

The U.S. was founded by racist slave holders, equally disgusting traits. There are other countries but this one HAS evolved from it's inception as has Planned Parenthood.

I remember exactly who came up with that counter. I was physically there to witness her saying it.

The one and only thing I have to say to that is I am currently entertaining ideas about leaving the United States. I have little desire to burn through all my hard-earned money if one of my kids has an expensive health condition. Then there's the racism in this country. And the Tea Party, Rush Limbaugh, the Koch Brothers...

I'm here because half my ancestors immigrated from Africa and the other half was brought here as slaves. Every day I ask myself... :wtf: were the former half thinking!

As for the Koch Brothers, I said "Then there's the racism in this country. And the Tea Party, Rush Limbaugh, the Koch Brothers..." That's not saying the Koch Brothers are racist; it's saying the Koch Brothers are an additional problem in America that is terminal enough to make this country a less desirable place to live.

57. "Aren't there other organizations that have arisen without PP's disgusting taint?"
So was that a rhetorical questions?

What is it exactly about PP that gives it a "disgusting taint"?

The fact that it's founder was way to the left of other eugenicists when she said that no woman should be sterilized against her will, that women need to make their own choices, and that no one should be killed?

Where is the "disgusting taint" that you should be applying to our government?

Why Planned Parenthood?

21. "America" was founded by racists.
I guess we could all leave and let things go back the way they were. But I would submit that the mission of PP has shifted to a much better place than the mission of the USA over all. Feminists for Life is pro-birth no matter the circumstances and usually without a social network. So if you want things to be a situation of anarchic adding of babies to the social mileau without any visible means of support, they are your man.

23. WRONG, AND DESPICABLE!
"Charges of racism against Sanger are most often made by anti-choice activists who are unfamiliar with the history of the African-American community or with Margaret Sanger's collegial relationship with that community's leaders. The tangled fabric of lies and manipulation woven by anti-choice activists around the issues of class, race, and family planning continues to be embroidered today, more than three-quarters of a century after the family planning movement began."

"In 1930, Sanger opened a family planning clinic in Harlem that sought to enlist support for contraceptive use and to bring the benefits of family planning to women who were denied access to their city's health and social services. Staffed by a black physician and black social worker, the clinic was endorsed by The Amsterdam News (the powerful local newspaper), the Abyssinian Baptist Church, the Urban League, and the black community's elder statesman, W.E.B. DuBois."
http://www.plannedparenthoodnj.org/library/topic/contraception/margaret_sanger

"Sanger was also keen on seeking support from local ministers – a group usually unsupportive of birth control. Black ministers in Harlem, however, considered birth control to be connected to larger visions for community development. The three biggest Harlem churches– Abyssinian Baptist Church, St. James Presbyterian, and St. Philip’s Protestant Episcopal – which had over 16,000 members combined, had great influence over their congregations. Sanger and Dr. Levinson made use of these local institutions by inviting pastors to serve on the Advisory Council and using churches as locations for public lectures."
http://www.nyu.edu/projects/sanger/secure/newsletter/articles/harlem.html

It does not seem that Margaret Sanger's contemporaries, W.E.B. DuBois and 16,000 church-going Black folk thought she was a "racist eugenist."

But there is more. Here are the words written in 1966 by that world renowned "racist eugenist" supporter, the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

"Words are inadequate for me to say how honored I was to be the recipient of the Margaret Sanger Award. This award will remain among my most cherished possessions. While I cannot claim to be worthy of such a signal honor, I can assure you that I accept it with deep humility and sincere gratitude. Such a wonderful expression of support is of inestimable value for the continuance of my humble efforts."
http://www.birthcontrolwatch.org/blog/2009/01/martin-luther-king-jr-and-margaret.html

Words can not convey the contempt I hold for individuals who splash around hateful rhetoric about someone who spent her life helping women to PLAN THEIR FAMILIES! You like fucking? Without Margaret Sanger, you'd have at least 15 kids!

Did you even read it?

"Many historians now believe that Sanger opposed eugenics along racial lines. Furthermore, Sanger opposed the belief of many eugenicists that poverty was hereditary, asserting instead that poverty, criminal behavior and other social problems were due to environmental factors and were not predetermined."

28. Margaret Sanger always said it should be the woman's choice, not the state's.
Edited on Thu Mar-17-11 08:46 AM by ehrnst
"We maintain that a woman possessing an adequate knowledge of her reproductive functions is the best judge of the time and conditions under which her child should be brought into the world. We further maintain that it is her right, regardless of all other considerations, to determine whether she shall bear children or not, and how many children she shall bear if she chooses to become a mother... Only upon a free, self-determining motherhood can rest any unshakable structure of racial betterment."

She rejected gassing the "unfit" as others, like the Carnegie Institute did.

Her veiws were actually much, much more liberal than the state level eugenics laws common at the time. Judges could order the sterilization of a woman based on was considered 'promiscuous" behavior, or 'unsuitability for motherhood."

The anti's talk about Margaret Sanger as thought she was the only one that had any thoughts on this issue, and was trying to convince the populace of the value of eugenics. She was arrested because she wanted women, not the state to decide when they had children.

Actually, Feminists for Life does not even discuss, let alone support Contraception. The best you could say is that they "tolerate" some types of contraception - primarily because they veiw birth control pills as abortion, as per their Roman Catholic backers.

From their website:

"Feminists for Life advocates practical resources and support to address the unmet needs of pregnant women and parents. Preconception issues are outside FFL’s mission. Feminists for Life members and supporters hold a broad spectrum of opinions regarding preconception issues, and FFL welcomes anyone committed to working alongside us in our shared mission. "

"Leaving abortion aside for just a moment, even most forms of contraception invade the woman's body, not the man's--and in more cases than we want to admit, scar and irrevocably damage those bodies. (Even condoms, the one "male" form of contraception, usually end up being the woman's responsibility--survey after survey shows that it is invariably women, not men, who are responsible for purchasing condoms.)"

Before you ask what other people think of these issues, you should inform yourself on them.

Edited on Thu Mar-17-11 08:56 AM by ehrnst
The idea that there is a ruling class that must be defended, and those that defend them will be rewarded and protected.

There are women that have been convinced that the ability to choose when and with whom they enjoy sex is more freedom than women deserve or can handle. (I also have to wonder how much repressed envy is involved.)

The antis have painted a picture of women, unleashed from the fear of pregnancy, going hog wild and winding up diseased, unable to have children once they 'settle down" - even if they could find a man who wants them. And men, without the fear of being forced into fatherhood, have no interest in women as people, and no real reason to commit.

The way they tell it, it's a wonder any woman has been able to find a man or have a baby since Planned Parenthood sunk their claws into our womenfolk...

Reminds me of the picture of the uterus with the words "Don't Tread On Me" underneath!

39. Get ad....
women who hate Planned Parenthood can go f*ck themselves as well. They are OPPRESSING other women. Oppression is not allowed in a democracy....or maybe we're just a Fascist nation after all.

40. Agreed. Why give your Cookies to someone who won't defend the Bakery?
Ladies, don't date Republicans or independents who vote Republican! Do you want to be with someone who thinks you are too stupid to make your own health care decisions? Even if your man claims to be personally pro-choice, as long as he votes for Republicans, he doesn't have your best interests at heart and puts his wallet/gun/god/homophobia first. Think about that. (The same goes for female partners, too. I don't assume all lesbians are liberal or feminists.)

The message we should take away from Lysistrata is not just for those of us who have partners but that all of us can exercise our power and influence; to use those tools we have available, whatever those may be.

If you are already married to a Republican, then you will have to find other ways to persuade your partner. Good luck to you.

"Feminists for Life" is a group that wants to have their cake and eat it too. They benefit from feminism by enjoying more equality in the workplace and in education, but let their backward, patriarchal religion inform their views on Choice. The same goes for Republican women. Nothing pisses me off more than women like Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachmann who have benefited from the struggles of our feminist fore-mothers who fought for our right to vote and also to be taken seriously as a candidate. Fifty years ago they would not have had a chance in hell of being elected as governor or congress critter or chosen as a "viable" VP candidate. Yet here they are, willing tools of the powers-that-be that use them to "prove" Republicans are inclusive and care about women so they can continue to rape our economy for their own benefit while we're all distracted.

Love vaginas too! Those that have them should be able to do whatever they want with them - period!

43. Recommend, but sadly
I recommend this post, but sadly there are lots of women who would probably be against Planned Parenthood also. I bet that religious nut on the front page of DU last week with her youtube video about how great it was that god caused the tsunami in Japan to teach the atheists a lesson is probably against planned parenthood, too.

This "crusade" against PP is mostly motivated by religious nuttery, and there are probably just as many female religious nuts as male ones.

46. LOL, nice approach-sexual health
means keeping it clean, ignorance breeds disease!

Public health has it's roots in disease control, it was a filthy world before we had public health clinics.

53. I'm not sure about this
Given the frequency with which closeted Republicons show up outside of their comfy closet, I wonder whether a No Fly Zone over vaginas will alter their behavior.

Now, if Anonymous went after and shut down the personal ads on Craigslist, THAT would get their attention.

for vagina regulation, would stop?

Some schools may be losing half of their teachers next year. Can we really afford to cut Planned Parenthood?
