3. Cenk is right on
Medicare is going to be hit, but not as hard as Ryan's plan
would hit it. The Dem's will compromise because, they will
say, they had to make some cuts to save the most important
parts of the program (whatever that means).

Social Security is going to be hit for the same reason: the
Repubs wanted to dismantle it, so we had to make a move to
save what we could. Retire at age 70? Sure, why not. It's
not the best solution, but it's the only one we could get an
agreement about.

The 1%-ers will have a temporary tax increase that will be
written into law in such a way that any hack lawyer would be
able to work around it. The result will actually be that the
vile rich will actually pay less in taxes than before. It'll
be just like the tax law on Corporations: very stiff rates but
so many loop holes that nobody pays it.

Workers rights will continue to disintegrate because the
President never felt they were very important -- even though,
during his campaign in 2008, he said he'd walk the picket line
with workers.

Torture will be relegated to the back pages, but it will
continue.

The beat goes on.

Uncle George, wherever you are, thanks for telling truth to
power and warning us about Corporate ownership of the
government(s) and, of course, our children's increasingly
bleak future.

(Can Vermont secede? If it can, I'd like to move there.)

4. If only....
The American people would unite and march all across our country. Having specific demands and goals. How can we get them to turn the propaganda off?

Maybe our first marches would not be as large, but if the citizens who were aware of the propaganda machine, would march...

Coordinated, all over the country, to have the FAIRNESS DOCTRINE REINSTATED and carefully updated to include todays technology, then we could eventually grow our numbers with an informed electorate.

They fear that terribly..

7. That SOUNDS plausible
the problem is, most folks won't bother with something they think is beyond their control. It's easier to just stay home and watch TV.

9. If 'ifs' and 'buts' were candy & nuts, we'd all have a bowl of granola...
The sad truth is that most Americans are disinterested in politics, there're too many shiny distractions to keep them from paying attention - American Idol, Facebook, materialism, etc. Those of us who do pay attention are either grossly misinformed by the corporate media, or feel so overwhelmed by the power leveraged against the average person that we feel helpless. What good is marching all across America when it only gets reported here on DU & a couple other sites already preaching to the choir? The MSM would rather cover Palin, Sheen or 10 tea-baggers in a park than a million people protesting war, corporate greed or income/wealth inequality.

Sorry to rant w/o providing a solution of my own, but that's how I see it. And Cenk is right: D's and R's play good-cop/bad-cop & we get screwed either way.

11. (Agreed.) But if a million is (clearly) not enough, how about....
50 million? 100 million? 200 million?

One thing is certain, though, the way things are going, that day is gonna come. Sooner or later. There is no way around it. Teevee or not teevee. And it should be sooner than later because climate change is not waiting, and the oceans are acidifying a little more each passing day. And you know what that means, eh? (The end of marine life, and once marine life is gone, children and grandchildren will be next.)

13. the mass protests...
didn't stop the war in Iraq. They are going to do what they want, and, like bullies, the only thing the understand is blood.

Now that the Rs and Ds know we're on to their charade, don't you think they'll change their tune and act responsibly? They couldn't possibly think we're that stupid, could they? Or could they really care what we think?

15. Cenk better get under the bus with Hedges and Greenwald for saying
the Dems are complicit. Can't have that. We need to support the Dems no matter what, just like GW's followers supported him, no matter what atrocities he perpetrated.

Of course, we ridiculed the Repugs for that, back in the day. But this is different. :sarcasm: As if it's needed.
