Gil Smart says our inability or unwillingness to confront climate change means the only thing we can "do" about it is to endure it.

1. Yup...
We are all just along for the ride now. Everyone where I live is all happy that it did not even come close to 100 degrees on Memorial Day. With comments like "If this is global warming/climate change" I want more. Personally I find it very disturbing. Never in my 30 yrs here has it ever been this cool for this long into the summer months. Change is coming all right... I don’t think we are gonna like it too much.

2. Which is why
it's more accurate to talk about 'global climate change' without conflating it with 'global warming,' since the real damage to our ecosystem can only be a matter of conjecture until we actually witness what our hubris has wrought.

BTW,here I sit in Houston, where we haven't had a good rain in over a month. The temperatures here are not as high as we might expect either, but I don't for an instance think this means that we're not in the midst of global climate change. But, I'm in the minority, here in this Republican stronghold.

3. Get used to it - all of it.
Can anyone imagine a world where any of the oil/coal/gas in the ground is left there when it can be extracted for a profit? It's totally NOT within the realm of possibility. Even if the profit margin is cut by 90% for whatever reason - taxes, supply/demand pressures, hoarding, whatever the reason - as long as there is any potential profit to be made, someone will drill, pump or dig the stuff out of the ground and burn it.

The worst case scenario is our future. It's inevitable.
