A salient question. It isn't like the Democrats would capitalize on the "distraction-free" time anyway.

17. Of course it is
do you think a dedicated web researcher couldn't come up with compromising pictures of hundreds of others of these power-drunk corporate robots in Congress? I think they could, but those scandals would be overlooked and brushed aside. The fact that Weiner goes on television and fights for progressive ideas is why he is being thrown under the bus.

19. Yes. Weiner has called for Clarence Thomas to . . .
recuse himself from cases related to health care, because of his conflicts of interest.

Weiner has pointed out Ginny Thomas's advertising herself as a lobbyist with "experience and connections," selling the Supreme Court.

That's why it's Weiner who's got to go.

Now they have Rick (wheres my prostitute and diapers?) Santorum running for POTUS.

Let's get real. "they (including our, oh so Progressive POTUS) want to shitcan a real Progressive for "sexting." How obvious.

21. I think you are mixing up Santorum with Vitter
Santorum is an anti-gay bigot, but as far as I know has not been in a sex scandal. No doubt his proclivities in that regard are baroque and perverted - but he's kept it buttoned down so far.

the sexual proclivities of our "family values" hypocrites. Thanks Professor.

2. Bob Herbert, who I usually quite like, turns out to be a an
insufferable pecksniff with regards to Weiner. He totally approves of IOKIYAR.

Rachel understands we (the party of the people) are in the fight of our lives here, and may not be able to afford such high standards of conduct, while the party of corporate robots live like Caligula, all the while pointing out the fallen humanity of Democrats.

gotta agree with Rachel on this one.

4. Yes Rachel, the issue is not capitulating, YET AGAIN, to blatant unfairness and double standards.
Herbert sounds like an insufferable wimp. I don't condone what Wiener did, but IOKIYAR is NOT ok, and it is time to take a stand. The Dem leaders on this are just running for political cover. They need to go on record against Wiener on this to cover their butts. That's all.

3. Does anyone think ..
That if Weiner goes, this is a win for Brietbart, and he will be given the green light to hunt down and grab any dirt on Democrats, be it big or small. In fact, wouldn't the Republicans love it, if even false charges were brought against a Democratic candidate, because then he would be guilty until proven innocent?

This just stinks..

5. Herbert said it: IT'S THE PICTURES. But for that, this would have been dead in a few days.
PICTURES PICTURES PICTURES But for the pics, this wouldn't have lasted more than three days. It's all about the pictures. What if pictures of Vitter actually shagging a DC Madam hooker had gotten out? He wouldn't have gotten off so scot free. They were intended as private pictures. STUPID move, I agree, and I don't condone the behavior at all on the one hand, but on the other, no laws broken, and no actual affairs. He deserves a chance to make amends and allow the voters to decide.

6. Please Mr Weiner commit some crimes
Edited on Tue Jun-14-11 10:16 PM by JJW
Do some war crimes, torture, or crimes against humanity, or some fraudulent banking, or illegal hedge fund trading. If you just do these things, the Dems and DOJ will not want to investigate or prosecute. They will want to look forward.

Seriously the absurdity of this moralizing isn't even from last century. this is victorian in its infantalization of women.

8. it's all about the money
Weiner was focusing on the money of politics, asking Clarence Thomas to resign or at least recuse himself when issues affecting his wife's business come before the court. That kind of talk scares the Democrats and Republiscans both. Better keep the circus surrounding Weiner's non-sex sex scandal going to distract attention away from the real problem in Washington. Money.

In a way I hope Weiner leaves and forms a public policy group working to expose the money connections on the hill.

11. I strongly agree with Rachel.
We should continue to hold to Weiner.

I wonder, if Weiner had a different name and skin color and ethnicity, would Democrats be so quick to want to show him the door.

I really wonder that.

He did something stupid but not criminal. It should be up to his constituents and his family.

I think the whole thing will be forgotten before long.

And I think a lot of the people speaking out so fanatically about this are doing it because they don't want any of Weiner's silly conduct to reflect on them. They are afraid that some of the fairy dust will stick to them. It is purely selfish.

Weiner should apologize big time, never do it again and continue to serve as long as his constituents continue to elect him. He has not hurt anyone.
