5. I don't think this will get Obama's attention
His economic 'trickle down' Chicago School policies are Republican - Laying SS/Medicare/Medicaid on the table was a Republican dream come true.
The only reason he didn't for politics as a Republican is as Max states - the Republicans are racist.

6. I don't think the WH listens to Max.
In fact, I'm not sure who (if anyone) they listen to.

- That is besides Wall Street banksters, Big Pharma, etc., etc., etc.....

2. He said that which is forbidden to say.
They are racist and want the nigger to fail....that is the hard cold facts that no one but Max is willing to say.
Racism did not just disappear with the civil rights laws...it Nerely drove them underground and many of them still hold a grudge.

3. A great segment...
...Max packs a lot of information into this short interview. And of course the comments about the racist underpinnings of Republican intransigence are, so to speak, right on the money.

7. Max cuts close to the bone.....

...because he was once one of them. So they know that he knows what he's talking about. And it's also why he's had to go to the Russians to gain a televised voice. Because TPTB would never allow him to say such things on their media outlets.

- Look at what happened to Cenk and he's positively mild compared to Max.....

9. That headline expresses MY sentiments EXACTLY!!! BUT....
Edited on Sun Jul-24-11 04:55 PM by JAnthony
If we progressives had somehow elected a white woman, (Hillary) instead of this multi-racial man, (both about equally qualified, in my view), the headline would read.

First woman President financially RAPED by sexist GOP!

Same shit, different headline..Republicans are SHIT!

11. There's some truth to what he's saying, but...
... I think Max goes too far when he says that the threat of the credit rating agencies to lower the U.S. credit rating from AAA to AA is somehow a Republican plot. If you don't pay your bondholders, or have such a screwed up political system that there's a danger you won't, your credit rating takes a ding. No plot there.

That issue aside, do I think a wide swath of the Republican party would love to see the first African American president have a national default on his hands? Absolutely. I have political discussions on websites other than this one (where the level of political knowledge is lower and, probably, more reflective of the general populace), and the racism is pervasive and sickening.

12. Yeah. I'm sure there's no conspiracy.
None at all. Why it's not like the Chairman of the House Budget Committee is http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2011/07/rep-paul-ryans-pricey-pinot-noir.php">eating expensive meals at a fancy sha-mancy restaurant and drinking expensive wine and plotting with Repuke think tank haters and Repuke lobbyists or something.

- Oh, wait.....

... I'm not sure what it has to do with Standard & Poor's or Moody's credit ratings.

I'm going to assume you understand the value of credit ratings: that they're used to appraise risk and set the interest rates for loan instruments? With that background, do you really think, if the U.S. defaults or comes close (and we're coming close now), that a AAA rating -- perfect: zero risk of nonpayment -- is merited?

14. Would these be the same ratings agencies.....
...who were responsible for contributing to the financial debacle in 2007-08??? Well I say fuck 'em, and the horse they road in on. Further, if you can't see the connection between the post I referred you to and the co-mingling of these assholes to conspire against the people of this country, then it is beyond me to figure out why you can't see it. So I won't try any further. I've found that some most things of any value, you have to learn for yourself.

- But I will say this: this whole debt crisis is BULLSHIT. Capice?

15. Wow.
It's a pity this place has become so combative that it doesn't seem possible to have a conversation about anything.

DU is increasingly becoming a place where people in agreement post the same thoughts and where anyone who disagrees to any extent is met with a barrage of sarcasm and profanity.

Result: A bunch of people repeating the same ideas over and over again and working themselves up into a lather.

18. One person's incivility is another person's forthrightness.
You make a comment to which I disagreed. I provided a link to show why I think you're mistaken in your judgment, as it at least provides a connection as proof of likely collusion between a major elected official and lobbyists in formulating a bill before Congress. And yet you can see no connection between the two. There's no conspiracy. Fine.

You say tomâto - and I say tomãto, let's call the whole thing off.

Shall we?

23. Honestly,
the rating agencies were complicit in abetting the financial collapse. In fact, it couldn't have happened without them. It is not unreasonable to state that and to question their legitimacy. Current returns on the most recent US debt issues average 3% even though the US has a debt of $14 trillion. I wouldn't put it past these agencies and Congress to aid and abet a scheme to raise interest rates on federal debt to benefit the banking system since the Fed is lending them money at less than 1% to buy government debt now. If the debt ceiling is not raised, the government would merely be paying higher interest on the money it lends investors to buy its debt with. The people get screwed of course, but the banks don't care about that and won't until they finally kill the golden goose. They might not care even then. The US government has become the guarantor and lender of last resort to the global financial system. Cutting social spending will reassure that system that the US is serious in its new role as the worlds bank.

22. keep in mind that these "ratings agencies" are private companies,.
not public officials. They are just providing the service of giving an opinion on the viability of stocks, bonds, etc. These are that same groups that rated the junk "complex debt securities" that where made up of impossible to pay back mortgages as "AAA secure". These private raters of risk, are manipulating the markets, for the gain of the few over the many,. yet again. And why not they where never held to account for any wrong doing last time or the time before that,. . .
