6. Here are the lyrics and thanks for the post, babylonsister.
"Last To Die"

We took the highway till the road went black
We marked Truth Or Consequences on our map*
A voice drifted up from the radio
We saw the voice from long ago

Who'll be the last to die for a mistake
The last to die for a mistake
Whose blood will spill, whose heart will break
Who'll be the last to die for a mistake

The kids asleep in the backseat
We're just countin' the miles you and me
We don't measure the blood we've drawn anymore
We just stack the bodies outside the door

Who'll be the last to die for a mistake
The last to die for a mistake
Whose blood will spill, whose heart will break
Who'll be the last to die for a mistake

The wise men were all fools
What to do

The sun sets in flames as the city burns
Another day gone down as the night turns
And I hold you here in my heart
As things fall apart

A downtown window flushed with light
Faces of the dead at five (faces of the dead at five)
A martyr's silent eyes
Petition the drivers as we pass by

Who'll be the last to die for a mistake
The last to die for a mistake
Whose blood will spill, whose heart will break
Who'll be the last to die

Who'll be the last to die for a mistake
The last to die for a mistake
Darlin' your tyrants and kings form the same fate
Strung up at your city gates
And you're the last to die for a mistake

7. So true
Great song, but who is that person who I gather regularly stands in front of the White House garbed in a death costume holding the latest death count numbers for the troops? That is awesome. What a powerful image, especially when played in sequence like that. Of course this is the first I see of him/her because there is a blackout in effect in the MSM for peace protester stories.

I'd like to have both clips together. Maybe someone has it.

14. Kerry's quote during Vietnam
I think he said that during the Winter Soldier's investigation
in Detroit, didn't he? If so it will be on a video on you-tube
but there are a whole series of them I'm afraid, so you'd have
to wade through them.

10. I love that Bruce is honoring John Kerry, a real patriot, and all the dead. Also..
it's like the cat is out of the bag.
I watched the pictures of the soldiers moving the coffins on/off the plane,
and I cried.. at last, at last.

The pictures of our dead ... the real coffins in the opening... HERE AT LAST for all to see.
Everyone should watch that opening.

Those pictures should be plastered all over the nation.
Wake up!
Wake up!

I'm so full of sorrow.

Thank goodness Bruce has a platform... any kind of platform.
I hope more people begin to speak out.

You can get a clip of John Kerry if you watch Going Upriver, that documentary about him.

24. There's a rumor that the
Gathering of Klegiels will be protesting at Springsteen shows. My guess is there are a few more Springsteen fans than Kleigles.
Anyway, the saddest song I've ever heard is by Tom Paxton. Here are the lyrics.
Jimmy Newman
(Tom Paxton)

Get up, Jimmy Newman, the morning is come,
The engines are rumbling, the coffee's all brewed.
Get up, Jimmy Newman, there's work to be done,
And why do you lie there still sleeping?

There's a waiting line forming to use the latrine,
And the sun is just opening the skies.
the breakfast they're serving just has to be seen,
And you've only to open your eyes.

Get up, Jimmy Newman, my radio's on,
The news is all bad, but it's good for a laugh.
The tent flap is loose and the peg must be gone,
And why do you lie there still sleeping?

The night nurse is gone and the sexy one's here
And she tells us such beautiful lies.
Her uniform's tight on her marvelous rear,
And you've only to open your eyes.

Get up, Jimmy Newman, you're missing the fun.
They're loading the planes, Jim - it's time to go home.
It's over for us - there's no more to be done,
And why do you lie there still sleeping?

It's stateside for us, Jim, the folks may not know -
We'll let it be such a surprise.
They're loading us next, Jim, we're ready to go,
And you've only to open your eyes.

Get up, Jimmy Newman! They won't take my word.
I said you sleep hard, but they're shaking their heads.
Get up, Jimmy Newman, and show them you heard!
Ah, Jimmy just show them you're sleeping!

A joke is a joke, but there's nothing to gain -
Jim, I'd slap you, but I'm too weak to rise.
Get up, damn it, Jimmy! You're missing the plane,
And you've only to open your eyes.
You've only to open your eyes -
My God, Jimmy! Open your eyes!

25. It's unfortunate, but true...
THIS WAS NOT A MISTAKE.

Our soldiers are dying for greed.
Planned, executed and now no one will attempt to correct it.

Lies, damned lies.

13. Those that March
Hats off to all those that bother to get off their butts to go
out and carry these coffins in the marches. I am so tired of
hearing the excuses people have for not getting out there and
protesting. And I do believe they are excuses. "It's not
the 60's anymore." "It doesn't make any
difference." "The media won't cover it anyway."
If people can't see the value beyond those excuses then this
country will never save itself.

I'm sort of glad that Boss is just a tiny bit old my me.

Every time I think I'me running out as soon as we are pushin' 60, he comes out with something that remind me that I ain't dead yet.

30. call your local (progressive) rock station; demand air time..
...for this song...

those old enough to remember Vietnam may recall that when anti-war songs made it onto popular radio stations ... it energized the movement and helped end the war...

35. Thank you.
Do you know if this got it's own thread anywhere? Seems like a news
story somewhere should have it, but I Googled to no avail. I didn't
want the question to get buried in a quick-drop GD thread.

I hope he's heard the song by now. And he'll get good seats at the
concert, no doubt.

Thanks.
