Andrew Klaven, Author & screenwriter joins Thom Hartmann. The number one movie at the box office this week is "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" - a prequel to the Planet of the Apes movie franchise from the late 1970's. Or - as Fox News described it - a Trojan horse for leftist PETA ideology. Right - that's exactly how liberals think. And guess what the number two movie is at the box office this week? THE SMURFS! Smurfs are blue - Democrats are blue - this must be another liberal propaganda film right? Well my guest apparently thinks so

The Big Picture with Thom Hartmann on RT TV & FSTV "live" 9pm and 11pm check www.thomhartmann.com/tv for local listings

1. At lease we can all agree on Captain America. He's blue AND red.
Oh, wait, his enemy is the RED Skull. Those lefty Hollywood bastards did it again!

2. The orignal Planet of the Apes starred Charlton Heston. They don't get more RW than him.

Is this Andrew Klaven Cliff's brother, or something?

He goes on that typical RW red herring about Hollywood being a bastion of liberals. I can name you several Hollywood actors who went on to political careers as conservatives or Republicans:

Ronald Reagan - the patron saint of conservatism, for crying out loud!
Arnold Schwarznegger
Fred Thompson
Fred Grandy
Sonny Bono
Clint Eastwood
and the aforementioned Charlton Heston

The only Hollywood personality I can think of who went on to politics as a liberal is Al Franken.

3. there are hundreds of RW films and many have done well at the box office

Hollywood is a breeding ground for conservative politicians and spokespersons. These names might sound familiar:

- Arnold Schwartzenegger
- John Wayne
- Charlton Heston, and
- Ronald Reagan

What BS.

5. It always cracks me up
when people put right & left labels on movies that are just designed to entertain everyone.

If the movie is good, it makes money.

6. I'm tired of leftists' being smeared as open to PETAphilia.
So-called animal rights ideology is profoundly anti-human, anti-humanist, and has no place in a progressive world view.

7. But wait? Won't the free market solve this?
If "liberal" films weren't making money, wouldn't the corporate masters that own the production companies and such move to hire more "conservative" film-makers?

Perhaps the film overlords realize that conservative ideologies down translate well in movies as it doesn't in real life.

8. The Hollywood is one of the most capitalist bastions in America.
It embodies the social Darwinist libertarian ideal, no matter what the supposed "message" is in their product: if your talents don't make money, then you fail.
