I served in Army Military Intelligence for four years.
Newsflash:
"24" is FICTION!Anyone who has been trained in interrogation techniques KNOWS that if you don't immediately need the information it is a thousand times more preferable to "establish a relationship" with the captive. However, once you do the betcha by golly wow TORTURE used on that POS fictional show, "24," you can kiss good-bye any chance of a true interview with the captive. When you whip out "torture" and/or so called "coercive interrogation" from the onset, each and every time you question the person, you will have to continue to intimidate and torture. Even if the prisoner does not mentally "break down" into a slobbering mass of nerve endings, you will NOT, I say again ---> You will NOT glean any valuable information from him.
Take a few moments to scan the Table of Contents of The Army's Field Manual (link below) to discern that the most valuable, corroborated human intelligence is gleaned through a series of targeted and skilled interrogations.
FM 34-52 INTELLIGENCE INTERROGATION http://www.globalsecurity.org/intell/library/policy/army/fm/fm34-52/Please don't let me stop folks from the ongoing fantasy trips of "24 type intelligence operations." :eyes:
However, skilled and effective intelligence units, do not operate in this manner.
TRANSLATION: In the real world, such tactics ONLY serve to *break* the prisoner. After the captive is broken and resentful, no useful intelligence will be gleaned from him.
