This video shows the events of Occupy Oakland's General Strike on 11/02/11. From the morning rally in downtown Oakland until the successful picketing of the Port of Oakland.

For most of the participants, the day was positive, inspiring and empowering. Unfortunately, a few dozen people decided to riot later that evening. The next day, that was all you heard about on the news.

This video attempts to capture the vibe of the General Strike.

1. It was amazingly successful. And peaceful. Over ten thousand
Edited on Sat Nov-05-11 03:13 AM by sabrina 1
people with hardly any police presence and no incidents of violence all day, plus shutting down the port. And it was to protest the brutal attack on Iraq Veteran Scott Olsen. When the police would not do their job and arrest the criminal who nearly killed, it was beautiful to see what the people of Oakland did for him. And also to see the power the people have when they decide to use it. That was awesome, and encouraging as people have been feeling so helpless about this country.

Until the police and the infiltrators arrived. And now they have seriously injured another Iraq Vet. And no one would have know had it not been for the Guardian Reporter, who was on the KO show tonight.

All these violent attacks on Veterans and protesters with no one held accountable. This is frightening, and not a word from our so-called leaders. Silence, an old saying goes, means consent. Whose side are the on, and who is on the people's side?

2. Whose side are you on?
Why strongly react only when a veteran - symbol of state violence - is hurt, why is it less bad when police beat hippies and anarchists?

Those who you call "infiltrators", are also those who organize medical aid to victims of police violence. While there are tactical disagreements on how to react to police violence, those giving first aid to Scott and taking him to hospital are people who also participate in black block tactics.

In Greece the "so-called leaders" who are responsible for giving police their orders and selling people to slavery of banks, cannot appear in public. If they do so, people gather around them, they are being shouted, thrown yoghurt and eggs and even stones. Until they leave and go away.

I'm not on the side of any politicians and other bosses, until they stop being politicians using violence against people and rejoin the people.

3. Why make stuff up when my comments are available
for anyone who wants to see them? Do you do that often? Are you confusing me with someone else? Your post makes so little sense I have no idea what you are talking about so I assume you must have meant it for someone else.

4. Nothing personal
I was not responding to you, only the language of your post, and all the ways how that language reflects other languages at the moment.

We are not separate, language uses us more than otherwise. We can only participate and try to stay conscious and aware of how language is using us, at each moment. That's my definition of poetry.

There is lot of bad blood, hatred going on, especially re Oakland and black block and how that divides the movement. I try to do what I can to heal the situation, by not taking sides but talking to all sides.

7. We are all trying to heal the situation. But violence will not
accomplish that and when people ask you to respect their non-violent movement, it is not healing to ignore those requests and then hand a victory to the enemies of the movement. That makes people wonder who these people are and what their motives are, as they appear to be trying to do harm.

OWS had an amazing, stunning success that day until a few people gave the cops and the MSM a reason to ignore tens of thousands of peaceful protesters, and focus on the few violent actions to paint the entire movement as violent. That was selfish to say the least. If they want to demonstrate using violence, then they should organize their own protests. There is too much at stake for this country, and this movement is the only hope of making any progress towards changing things, to allow a few, selfish, or maybe infiltrators, to destroy it.
