8. It's a Wonderful Life took a lot of heat when it was released, believe it or not-

The FBI considered it communist propaganda for 'deliberately maligning the upper class' and 'glorifying the triumph of the common man'. (http://www.wisebread.com/fbi-considered-its-a-wonderful-life-communist-propaganda#memo1)

These are probably the same reasons there's never been a US remake of Metropolis.

6. MAD Magazine did a bit

Of classic stories as summarized by republicans and had Reagan giving a synopsis of, "A Christmas Carol," which defended Scrooge as a job creator, being visited by 3 socialist ghosts, etc. It was true then, even more so today.
