On her 19th birthday, Miley Cyrus made a very adult statement.
Late Wednesday, Miley posted a video on the web of her song "Liberty Walk," featuring news footage of the Occupy movement that has spread from Wall Street to city streets and parks around the world.
The song, remixed by her longtime producing collaborators Rock Mafia, is off her 2010 album Can't Be Tamed.

selling records to brain dead redneck haters of OWS is more likely than selling pro-OWS recordings to supporters of OWS.

to be following her more than anybody here, so you would know better than I. I don't listen to her music, or even like her music, but this is awesome! You know that you have a weak argument and probably are against the OWS, if I can gather from your line of reasoning, and hate that it is gaining acceptance by leaders of pop culture. Perhaps it is the start of something even bigger.

If anything, people like her should be joining in on this. It will have profound affects on them.

way of knowing that is all it is about for her. She is a citizen. She has a right to express her views. And as far as it benefiting her, that may not be the case actually, with the huge campaign already in place to discredit the movement.

I'm sure there are many celebrities who agree with the movement, but are scared to get involved in case they are successfully discredited and it could hurt, rather than benefit their careers.

She gets credit for what she is doing imho.

Vangelis, ballads, and folk music, with a big helping of sixties groups like The Association, New Christie Minstrals, etc.

But you know what? I kinda like this song. And I don't puke at young artists like Miley or Justin Bieber, etc. And especially not those who are trying to be socially conscience and repsonsible.

...it's good to see a *young* musician supporting OWS. It's been pretty upsetting that so far, it's mostly been veterans of the original civil rights movement coming out of retirement, instead of the younger generation stepping up to the plate. And I have to hand it to her, she's taking far more of a risk coming out in support of OWS than someone like Pete Seeger, whose politics are already well known.

... of Miley. Stand tall, stand strong, and stand for something.

This is a big risk for somebody who comes from a corporate sponsored background.

Her music may not be cup of tea, but she seems like a good person and gets unfairly lumped in with the Lohans and Paris Hiltons of the world.

look beyond herself to see what's happening in the world.

She speaks out on things she feels strongly about, and has voiced her support for equal rights for all people (gays in particular) and has also spoken out against the ridiculous demands that Hollywood puts on stars to be super thin. As a mom of teens, I'm proud of her. She can reach people we can't reach.

As for her career, she is still the number one teen star and has a wonderful influence on teens raised in non-progressive households because of her type of music. Her speaking out may help her fans think for themselves -- I certainly hope so. I don't think this is cashing in at all. She may even lose fans over it.

People love to hate Miley because she is so popular. The kid can't sneeze without a press release going out about it. With that in mind, she has grown to be a mature young adult.

Any public figure endorsing OWS in such an open way is taking a big stand for their support of American ideals and democracy.

I am very thankful of her contribution to the movement. Her lyrics, but the images were chosen by somebody and are very powerful.

Frank Zappa would be proud of her!

This isn't exactly a sure fire career mover. She has also stood up for gays.

While I have wondered at her career moves at times, she doesn't give 2 hoots about what anybody thinks. She may make 'interesting' moves at times, but she isn't a pushover.

You want to know where Miley got her independent streak from? Her godmother is Dolly Parton. I can't think of a better role model.

I think Miley does have some talent. However, she is hit or miss when it comes to her career. Some songs are great, but they are few and far between right now.

But as for 'Liberty Walk,' I think she means it. She certainly knows the 99% because that is where her roots are.

Some of them bashing OWS for not being like The Tea Party.

Miley Cyrus was willing to be controversial by supporting OWS.

But hey it's good media...
