4. Honorable Scott Olsen. . .
. . .a perfect example of the Peaceful Warrior promoted by Dan Millman for the past 25 years.

His family raised him well and deserves to stand proudly with him as his FULL recovery WILL happen. . .with such a magnanimous spirit.

Scott, you're far more advanced than I along the road of spiritual evolution because. . .ya see. . .what I wouldn't give to see the sonavabitch who shot you at least get punched repeatedly in HIS face same place he got you.

Sending intense karma wishing for Scott's delivery of poetic justice. . .

10. I cannot see this
Why? The video is private. Or is it possible that there's a case pending against the law enforcement assholes who did this? Hmmm....

@Dookiestix - The user probably got a warning for the number of view hits, and marked it private.

13. support independent media!
please do not post unauthorized copies to youtube, which is a for-profit corporate website

here is a link to the original video: http://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2011/11/28/18701164.ph...

send that link out, or use the Indybay.org embed code to place the video on any website you like

<object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="480" height="360" data="http://www.indybay.org/js/flowplayer/FlowPlayer.swf "> <param name="movie" value="http://www.indybay.org/js/flowplayer/FlowPlayer.swf " /> <param name="quality" value="high" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#000000" /><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /> <param name="flashvars" value="config={videoFile:'http://www.indybay.org/uploads/2011/11/29/occupyoakland... " /> <p>Your browser is not able to display this multimedia content.</p></object>

but reposting original copies of the video to commercial websites is not allowed by Indybay's terms of use/copyright notice

yes, keep the video out there, but respect and show support for hardworking independent media makers. don't exploit their work for the benefit of corporations

thank you

peace,
david

14. Please use the following Scott Olsen video footage
Edited on Thu Dec-01-11 10:14 PM by StaticisStranded2
Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum and wanted to introduce myself here as I have something relevant to add to this discussion. Sorry for the lengthy description here.

That video is being removed for the following reasons:

Monday morning I was the first YouTube user to upload the video titled "Scott Olsen Interviewed After Release From Hospital" (my YouTube username is StaticisStranded2). Thinking absentmindedly that I was doing the world a big favor, I took the content from Indybay.org - the interview was conducted by Dave Id.

Although I provided a link back in the description to the Indybay article and vid. I had emailed Indybay earlier to get in touch with Dave, but made a hasty decision to not wait for his permission to submit it. So when Dave Id finally got in touch with me - about 5-6 hours after it had been posted - he expressed the following concerns:

"I understand you thought reposting to youtube was helpful. The main problem is that it confuses ownership and corporate media think they can just pull anything from there willy-nilly. Also, it's a corporate website and I choose not to go that route with content I create."

"Just so you know a bit about me and my perspective, I spend countless hours volunteering to cover events for Indybay, and have a staunch anti-corporate media take on things, so it kills me when I see my unpaid work being exploited in commercial venues. I understand you are not paid, and hence there is little anger with what you did, mostly just a big "ugh", but paid corporate types know better and should not be too lazy to track down the source of what they want to use and seek permission."

"I guarantee you that if I pulled video from them and rebroadcast it on TV, I'd have a small army of their lawyers on my ass in no time. They don't misuse/miscredit/steal video from other corporate news outlets, but they feel entitled to exploit whatever they want from independents, and I steadfastly try to defend against that."

Those are his direct quotes to me. So in my opinion Dave's reasons are not all that superficial nor are they selfish. Therefore I took mine down voluntarily.

In fact, he's standing against the same corporate entities that all members of the movement are. And by "boycotting" or attempting to prevent those corporate entities from exploiting "the little guy" this is simply another way for him (and anybody else with the same sentiments) to keep those corrupt institutions from profiting from and putting their own spin on independent reports without giving proper credit to their sources.

Dave simply wants to keep his work independent and as transparent as possible. And YouTube (although a great place to share media) is not above it's own exploits. They make money off of YouTube community uploads as a whole. In essence, YouTube can be considered a part of the 1%.

Several mirrors have been reposted but those will eventually be taken down. It's an unfortunate thing, because it has the potential to reach a broader audience on such a website, but reflecting upon what Dave has expressed about corporate media and its exploits, I think we should all take that into consideration and at the very least respect his wishes.

I take full responsibility for the ruckus this has caused and accept the backlash that might come from this. I have apologized publicly to Dave Id and wish to extend that again, including everyone here that this might have inconvenienced.

In my opinion the important thing to remember out of all of this is that we are all Scott Olsens on some level. His story must be shared and that very same interview is still readily available to all.

I have posted the original interview link below. The video content now bears the Indybay watermark. Please do not make copies and upload them to YouTube. Let's try to have some integrity and keep YouTube out of the loop. Thanks for your anticipated cooperation.

Best wishes,

Static

p.s. Scott has also done at least two other interviews since Dave interviewed him - such as at USA TODAY http://www.usatoday.com/video/index.htm?bctid=1299411842001. And a spot on Ed Schultz that includes an excerpt and credited version of Dave's interview http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/11/30/scott-olsen-ed-schultz-occupy-oakland-msnbc_n_1120302.html. I believe Scott did an additional interview with Keith Olbermann, but I cannot locate that video or transcript.
