Marita Mariasine worked with Grassroots United and Earthship Biotecture to train 30 Haitians. Here she explains the Earthship way of Building.

The Haiti Earthship Project is a permanent, sustainable structure that takes care of the people (clean water, sanitary sewage treatment) and requires very few skills which are easy to acquire. The local people can replicate these buildings and systems.

2. This is the kind of Boots on the Ground action I can get behind!

I've always admired the Earthships I've seen in the desert SW of the US. This smaller version is a masterful study in sustainable architecture; I'd live in one in a heartbeat if I had a small plot of land away from strict zoning codes.

Most of the big gov. aid money is designed to generate corporate profits and more long term debt. Not a helpful system at all. The IMF/world bank are tools of corporate empire expansion and control.

Permaculture is what people need,. to learn that the corporate structures need not be used at all. That a few people can get together and build a home, that is safer, cleaner, and much more sustainable than anything the corporate/banking system has to offer.

4. And don't forget that it uses far less energy

Earthships are similar in concept to the Passive Haus or Passive House system: the ground around the dwelling is used to regulate the temperature inside. And if you can get one with a greenhouse in front that's just icing on the cake.

Youtube has many examples of why they're more sustainable but I'll just mention that they also recycle rain water, filter it and use that for the greenhouse (with more filtering you could drink it as well).

However, I was expecting something different; something like the asshats a few years ago that DID drink the kool-aid in anticipation of catching that UFO passing Jupiter.

Now what was their cult called???
