Wolf discusses her new book "The End of America", already on the New York Times bestseller list. The book identifies ten classic steps common to all dictatorships -- including those of Mussolini, Hitler and Stalin. Alarmingly, Wolf makes the case that each of these ten steps is occurring in post 9/11 America today. The book is a call to action for young and concerned Americans and this interview intimately frames this important discussion.

Have also had Armed Madhouse returned to me and have sent it on to someone else. Yes, I appear to be the neighbourhood lending library, but what the heck....

It is a scary book, but she is right. I've also had a daughter of survivors give me an intensive lesson in closing societies and a long reading list. I came to the same conclusions.

Thats my only question. I've been emailing friends and family more and more. Perhaps I can do more.

I made myself take the time to watch it and it will be required viewing for everyone in my household.

I was just remembering a few years ago when the mere mention of this would start major flamewars.

In regards to cynicism, I agree and understand being cynical on this.
We are hearing what many of us know of in real life and it's preaching
largely to the choir. But I think this video's exceptional in a good way.

It gives an undeniable and clear pathway followed in each case of the
fascist state rising, and perfectly pins it on what the Rove / Cheney
(with their spokesmonkey George) has been doing since 2001 that all
the PNAC guys drew up a blueprint for in the 1990s. This makes what
I consider good cannon fodder - for true Constitutional conservatism.

Not the fake-con, neo-con, corporate liberal, controlled...by bankers
crap with divide & conquer tactics employed now. We can use this to
not preach to aware friends, but to send to friends who are GOP...in
support...for divisive tool reasons...like homophobia, abortion, school
prayer and other things. We'll show them that maybe Dennis Kucinich
will want laws to keep you from buying 3 Uzis or AK-47s a week...but
he's not who you need to fear. President Gulliani or Bush - continued.

Under military rule for a staged terror event just before '08 elections
that don't appear to guarantee the election fraud/suppression of the
GOP will be enough to get GOP men in, they are who they must fear.
The thrust of my efforts are to people like that and we all know a
few. They say "I like freedoms too but you must understand that
there are people in this world who want us dead for our freedoms".

They're the ones against gun-laws, but I remind them that Bush or
another GOP leader will initiate that Blackwater team...that will be
kicking in their door, to take their guns. No, not president Kucinich
or Biden, Dodd, Obama or Edwards (... not too sure about Hillary).
This is how you win an argument with them. They're usually very
self-centered. Trying to use their own Christianity ... to justify a
push for peace and generosity (single-payer healthcare) is moot,
if it's done on that basis. You must argue in their own language.

In other words. I once convinced a friend who had that 'it's not
my problem' view on single-payer healthcare. I found out that he
payed a huge sum monthly to insure his family. I advised we have
enough in the budget now to pay for a Kucinich plan with no new
taxes, no loss of choice or worsening of care (in fact...those will
probably improve) and he'll save that thousand a month he pays.

BASED ENTIRELY ON HIS BENEFIT ALONE, he agreed with it. So
it works, you just have to speak language they can understand
in their self-centered ways. Don't try to change them. They're
mild sociopaths and that's a birth trait and it cannot be cured.

The two Naomi's. Naomi Klein, then Wolf. They both are doing
a great job at showing how Fascism takes hold. And they are
actually kinda cute. Naomi Klein ... especially. (I digress ...)
Thanks for that. It shows how ... if you explain things in a
clear way, perhaps, just maybe, we can use these to get
the less deep thinkers to still understand these problems.

Agree, the two Naomis - Klein and Wolf - are really doing a splendid job in alerting people. Question is, are enough people awake enough to pay attention?
