3. It's what he's running to, according to the NY Times
By resigning before the end of the year, Mr. Lott would beat the effective date for new ethics rules that double to two years the amount of time a former public official must wait before he can join a firm to lobby his former colleagues. The new rule applies to those who leave office “on or after” Dec. 31.

Mr. Lott, who lost his seaside home here in Pascagoula during Hurricane Katrina, has worked for his entire adult life in government.


Translation: time for daddy to cash in!

A lobby firm will pay expenses for 2 years & consider it an investment in the future. It should be more like 5 or 6 years. One year is a joke - 2 years is an insult.

He was just re-elected last year. So the good folks of Mississippi will have 5 years to get ready to elect his annointed replacement.

12. That rumor just surfaced on LA Talk radio
about 15 mins ago on the Air America outlet, one of the producers for the local host Mark Germain said that her same source that alerted her to the Larry Craig scandal had just texted to her that Lott's resignation was about a male prostitute about to come forward
