But the first two minutes were pretty good!

I'm sure a lot of DU members think it's a waste of time to discuss Savage, but I have to respectfully disagree.

For one thing, it's not like we're helping to promote him within the context of this clip being posted in a highly progressive forum (will anyone here really become a new, consistent listener?).

Also, the guy supposedly has over EIGHT MILLION listeners, which is horrifying. It's horrifying that he has ANY listeners. Don Imus got kicked off the air (for saying something incredibly stupid) for his mistake, yet you'd be hard pressed to hear any real discussion (outside of Media Matters who's done a great job collecting and breaking down his nonsense) of him.

There are people who believe that ignoring these fools is the best option, and I understand and agree with that general sentiment *to an extent*. But this isn't just some guy working out of his mom's basement. He's (mis)informing (and warping) the minds of millions of Americans, and the more people out there that realize it (and realize the motivations behind it) the better.

Avoiding discussion and (productive) confrontation with these extreme conservatives helps them continue to live in their reality bubble, unchallenged and comfortable.

I just didn't see the benefit of subjecting myself to him at that moment. I'm mad enough today already.

I didn't mean to direct that at you specifically. It just reminded me of the general topic that led to my response because I'm sure many DUers DO feel that way...of course knowing that, they probably won't see this anyway.

Hey....why get on the Father's case? He was obviously right.

As for all those listeners. Like Rush & O'Reilly & Coulter, quite a few of them are there to laugh AT these pundits. They're like a train wreck... some folks just cannot look away. Some people are like: "Whoa...what the hell are these fools gonna say today?" So, on top of the over-estimate, one can subtract the "get a load o' this!" crowd from their loyal listeners.

how they measure ratings exactly, but I know many people (myself included) can't stomach more than segment or two (due to the effect on blood pressure). At least that's the case with Savage.
