John Edwards speaks in Des Moines after the Iowa caucuses. Change won, the status quo lost, and the fight is on to see if we're going to have the kind of change we need to save the middle class.

5. Obama'talks'about compromised hope, with Edwards the dream is alive.
Not about what we hope will be but what we can actually do to make it a reality. Necessity is what motivates us...what makes us stand up and fight...hope is what sustains us...that we will be successful. We cannot attain what we wish for until we deal with what is. There is no compromising with thieves and criminals. Obama is the "I have a dream" candidate while Edwards is the "We must take our nation back from the economic royalists" candidate. We will obtain all that Obama envisions but only after we change our direction as a nation by standing up and fighting to get back what was taken from us after 12 yrs of Republican rule. FDR took hope and turned it into an arm of steel to protect Americans from these economic royalists (corporations) and get us back working again and believing the American dream could be shared by all. Edwards is keeping the dream alive by showing us how to deal with what is rather than what we hope will be. Look at what he accomplished with 1/6 the funding of the other 2 candidates. Just imagine if they were on equal financial grounds.

Edwards '08...Fighting to keep the dream alive.

19. You are right.
Moses took the people of Israel into the promised land. But he had to struggle and divide the Red Sea to do it. Regardless of the historical accuracy of that Bible story, it is an allegory for the mission of the next president. Obama is great, but Edwards is the president for 2008. Edwards has the vision and strength to divide the Red Sea as Moses did -- the see of misguided, misinformed red voters. We need Edwards now. Obama will be great once Edwards has parted the sea and let us cross to the Promised Land of a better America. We are in a struggle. It isn't yet time to talk about harmony.

As for the comparisons to Ghandi and Martin Luther King that someone raised in a thread this morning, Ghandi and Martin Luther King were fighters. They used nonviolent methods, but they fought. Nonviolence does not mean that you don't fight. Nonviolence refers to the methods you use in your fight. Edwards is a nonviolent fighter. He has fought in a nonviolent way -- in the courts -- for many years. He is in the same tradition as Martin Luther King, Thurgood Marshall and Ghandi -- a nonviolent fighter.

17. Obama spent 9mil,Clinton 7, John less than 4 in Iowa. Obama is a corporatist.
Don't be fooled by his pretty rhetoric because it actually says nothing. It's like and endless platitude which ignores what is, ignores reality.

24. I'm so happy to hear this--he was so impressive last night.
A friend at work today told me he couldn't get Edwards--"a rich guy talking about poverty, going on a 'Poverty Tour.'" I now know my response--why shouldn't the wealthy be concerned about the poor, the unemployed, the uninsured? It should matter to them, because aren't we responsible for our fellow man?

I haven't picked a candidate, but this speech really hit me hard. Edwards is looking pretty good to me right now.

25. Excellent speech. Choked me up.
If only JE had a better healthcare plan, I would vote for him.

Obama's speech was full of buzzwords and fluff.
