Not sure what he heard or what he was told or who got on his case, but Chris Matthews just gave one of the weirdest, 'I'm for the little guy', 'I love politics', 'women rock' half-defensive, half contrite apologies I've heard in some time in the lead in to Hardball just now. It was for his recent claim that Hillary only got where she is today because Bill cheated on her.

He should've thrown in an apology to Elizabeth Edwards, while he was at it,
for the condescending way in which he spoke to her recently on his show, capping it off with
"You've got a nice face, I mean...I don't wanna be condescending or anything, but..."

I didn't hear him apologize for being an asshole. Did he? Maybe I missed it.

On January 9, I wrote MSNBC an angry email and from what it sounds like, I was one of many. I wanted an on-air apology from Chris Matthews and lo and behold he had to sit there and squirm on national tv humbling himself and denying that he was ever the little dicked misogynistic pig that we all thought he was. 37. It's a victory for censorship. This shit has to stop. There is no right to not be offended.
There seems to be a trend in which people are forced to apologize for uttering opinions in which people disagree with or are offended by. If you don't like what someone is saying, don't listen to them, or don't watch them. This chilling effect on free speech is getting worse and worse.

The first three minutes are all about his "good heart" and faith in America and HOPE, and how he's so real & authentic that it might offend "sensitive feelings" of the womenfolk but he won't be ruled by political correctness! 31. I think Tweety still doesn't "get it." Apologizing for one statement about Senator Clinton...
IMO doesn't quite cover years of hate-speech toward her, and, more importantly, years of on-air sexism in general. I appreciate the gesture, but by pointing to only one incident, he lets slide all of the other incidents documented in a myriad of press pieces in the last few weeks, several of them posted here.

I do believe, however, that there has been a change in his on-air attitude toward Senator Clinton and women in general. I think he's not admitting that he's been a sexist pig, but I think he's in the process of changing his behavior.
