Heard about this new site over on Daily Kos (http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/1/23/103044/736/731/441674 -- h/t UN Dispatcher):

www.ondayone.org

From UN Dispatcher: "The site is a sister site to my own UN Dispatch, and strives to promote thoughtful discussion of US global engagement by asking people what the next president should do 'on day one.'"

The video of Ambassador Wilson is not the most compelling YouTube video I have ever seen, but his stated point ("end cowboy diplomacy") and the idea behind this site more than make up for it.

So... count me in. I am not only all for holding the president accountable on his/her first day, but I really like the idea of using a blog and website to do it. We are already out here posting diaries, venting online and raising consciousness in our communities, this seems like a logical place to collect these thoughts and make an even bigger impact by going straight to the source.

I will be checking out the site more today and will update you all once I post. Let's get this going... let me know if you are already on the site and/or if you have posted an idea for the on day one accountability. Would love to see how this all plays out in the coming months.

whoever is President MUST do this as their first task, I think.

3. finally, they are getting it...
I totally agree with you about using social media for these kinds of things. While I luv me sum heated discussions in a comment section on a rival blog, what I would rather see is something real getting done. UN Foundation/UN Dispatch... major props on this effort. Sending out to friends and family now...

5. really interested
in seeing how this plays out. I wonder what they are going to do with all the submissions? I would pay to watch the president have to surf the site for his/her first day, all day. heheh.

6. No chance
of getting our current President to watch this sort of thing. He couldn't care less. So the first thing we want is to elect someone who admits some regard for the court of public opinion.

7. actually... this might just work
Having a legit foundation like the UN and the Better World campaign working the traditional angles, but having a site like this that engages users in a real way... seems like a winning combo to me.

It is easy to get discouraged or jaded about making things better, but these journals, DU, the Internet in general... are only useful in so far as we can really affect change. Uniting our voices on a site like this is just what we need.
