Accused of "spinning for the democratic party:" Absolutely!

I am a "card carrying" member of the Michigan Democratic Party. Voted Dem since I was in the womb--even though I went through a socialist phase--I always supported Dems and voted Dem.

Recently I was debating a few friends who call themselves "Dems" and they eventually accused me of doing the Democratic Strategist "spin thing"--usually what we see on the talk shows. I thought, and then said, yes, I guess I am.

This is what I think: if you identify yourself as a Dem, you ought to defend the party, unless it goes fascist..LOL

Talking with fellow Dems, I offer constructive criticism about what I am disappointed with, but still try to follow that up with a positive "spin." With Repubs, always positive, obviously.

I do not think Dems should air their criticism publicly when it hurts the Party . Offer positive analysis. Move the discussion toward accomplishments, acknowledging setbacks privately, but when needed, publicly juxtapose setbacks with actual republican failings. In other words, spin it.

Why is that wrong? Obviously, we do not do a Giuliani-- no 911 on bush's watch insanity--but we move the discussion toward achievements and future victories.
When I watch Chris Matthews I love the Dem strategists he brings on. I like the fire. I like the Repubs also because they make it clear what Dems need to do in order to counter their crap.

I do not mean fabricate, like the repubs do, but consistently try to poke as many holes in their arguments as possible and then, spin their craziness into oblivion.

Much of what the BOG does, when members post polls and analysis articles, is what I am talking about: providing resources for developing counter arguments and providing that "strategist" strategy.

It is always important to attack faulty thinking and hyperbole with facts, and however that is perceived does not matter: Dems are acting like Dems.

Of course, in the end, it should always be People before Party; People before Profits: under the Democratic Party umbrella, that is the philosophy Dems should find.
