Text of Elyria Ohio Speech
Edited on Fri Jan-22-10 02:08 PM by sandnsea
"I know folks in Washington are in a little bit of a frenzy this week, trying to figure out what the election in Massachusetts the other day means for health insurance reform, for Republicans and Democrats, and for me. This is what they love to do.

But this isn’t about me. It’s about you. I didn’t take up this issue to boost my poll numbers or score political points - believe me, if I were, I would have picked something a lot easier than this. No, I’m trying to solve the problems that folks here in Elyria and across this country face every day. And I am not going to walk away just because it’s hard. We’re going to keep on working to get this done with Democrats, Republicans - anyone who is willing to step up. Because I am not going to watch more people get crushed by costs, or denied the care they need by insurance company bureaucrats, or partisan politics, or special interest power in Washington."

I'll get a youtube up when it's up, and on edit, this was at EMC Precision Machining in Elyria. I'm doing too many things at once, lol.

1. Thanks for that, sandnsea. But, honestly, I'm disheartened by this line he said:
"We’re going to keep on working to get this done with Democrats, Republicans - anyone who is willing to step up."

Come on, Mr. President! What will it take for you to stop believing that the party of "If we can stop Obama on this, it will be his Waterloo" has any desire to "step up" in a constructive manner. And dammit, stop with the stubbornly quixotic bi-partisanship quest. Who gives a shite if Republicans are involved or not. Remind us again and again that they've already had over 60 of their amendments added to HCR. That was more than they deserved, given that their entire idea of HCR revolves around destroying any chance you have of signing it into law. Remind us of how less than a year after your own grandmother passed, they had the insensitivity and gall to suggest that you were designing a program to nationally kill off grandmothers. Remind us of how the GOP presented a HCR "plan" that was an absolute insult to all Americans.

Come on already. Start shoving their shite back down their throats and make them gag on it (with
the "them" being the GOP and ConservaDems at large.)

Al Gore called it years ago: "We are in a kind of cold, civil war."

And while you're at it, remind Brown that not only is he is an assclown, but he's a junior Senator, not an incoming president. Stop holding out a virtual scepter to him.

And for the love of God, stop pretending the GOP's motives are pure.

end of rant

3. Union workers voted for Brown
Union workers who were fed the spew that they would have to pay the premium tax. That's where they got the idea that they were going to have to pay a tax for people from other states to get health coverage, considering they've already got it and there are more union workers in states like Mass.

So I get why he's buddying up to Brown. Unions put him in, unions can take him out. Unions want health reform. Brown has a big decision to make.

4. That sheds some light on it. I have to say I'm listening to him now, and feel better.
This has been a rough week for me.

Brown, the SCOTUS ruling -- I have to admit, I've got a bit of political bloodlust in my veins (could you tell?) :)

Thanks for the reply.

5. So do I
It's been stomach churning.

Frankly, we can figure out Mass and fix that. And we can figure out work-arounds on health care.

The Supreme Court? I don't know what the hell we can do about that. Or the handful of blue dog democrats who will be just as big of obstacles in passing any kind of corporate unpersonhood legislation as the Republicans. And I don't even want to think about a death or retirement and getting a liberal through with those dingbats, although we did okay with Sotamayor.

6. Again, Barney Frank was on MSNBC last night,
and he said that he and President Obama have already been kicking around ideas on legislative remedies to quell the effect of this ruling.

I am hopeful.

7. Good.
I'm referring to Blue Dog dingbats, not Dems like Barney Frank and the Pres.
