I went to Obama Precinct Captain Training today in Galveston, TX
Edited on Sun Feb-17-08 06:57 PM by Lisa0825
I had heard about the precinct trainings in the Houston area, and was planning to go to one even though I live in Galveston County. Then last night I got 2 voice mails about a training in Galveston today. We had at least 40 people there. There were SEVERAL similar trainings in Houston, which were heavily attended, but what is GREAT is that there were so many trainings in smaller communities, like Galveston, Brazoria County, Beaumont, etc. This is one amazingly organized campaign!

The Clinton drones have had their fun joking about sharing "conversion stories," but I must say that it was really fun and interesting listening to folks talk about what drew them to the campaign. (NO one cried or fainted, BTW LOL) It was a room full of mostly people who didn't know anyone else there, and those stories got people talking to each other and connecting with each other.

They gave us clear goals regarding our call lists, and a calendar of events including the office grand opening, phone banking, and visibility. They said the Precinct Captain website, which will help us track our calls, gives them (as administrators) the ability to see what precincts need more help so they can delegate volunteers appropriately.

It was quick, informative, and really gave me even more confidence in this campaign. They are working Texas HARD and I think our chances are really good!

It's so exciting to be in a state that MATTERS for once! :bounce:

On the ground and on the phone.

Well better late than never.

4. Gee, that sure explains the increasing numbers....

NOT. :eyes:

Edited to add: BTW John, Barack had staff here first and official offices first. Hillary thought she'd have this wrapped up on Feb 5. Oh how wrong she was! So what you are talking about is volunteers having worked for months.... well guess what? Obama also had that going on too. This is the offical campaign, with offices throughout the state. I don't think Hillary can come close to the number of staffers, offices, OR volunteers Obama has in Texas.

5. No. I didnt say HILLARY was doing this already.
The club has been working for the party getting democrats to vote in the primary. We have been planning on this for months and started working it in january.

We never thought Texas would be in play, so we were doing it as if it was.

We didnt wait for it to be a race. We were working already. Not for a candidate, but for our district.

6. Well, Obama volunteers have been working for months too.
I was for Edwards before, so I didn't attend the events, but they were out there.

BTW John, if you didn't realize it, the DU groups are generally for "supporters," not free-for-alls like the forums are. So if you'd like to spout off at me later, I'd appreciate it if you kept it in the Texas forum. I wouldn't go to the Hillary forum looking for a debate.

7. I'm a Captain in California and it was lots of work and lots of fun

We are also suppose to do some calling in Texas as well.

Be sure that you understand how to set up the grid that breaks up the CALLS by neighborhoods/ages etc. so that you are able to give friends and family pages of names to call.

You'll probably need help!

I have 482 people on my CALL list and it is very important to get started quickly so that you will have time to record your responses and do your call backs.

I found three wonderful call helpers during my CALLS. One was 81 years old and called about 80 people for us!

Good luck!

8. Thanks :-)
They set up a great "Texas Precinct Captains" program for us. They said they created it on the fly for California. It was version 1.0 then, and we have version 3.0. They said it was partially responsible for going from 30 points down to 8% down. The new version does all the narrowing down for us. All we have to do is sign in and call the number it gives us. We can even share our logins if we want to have folks over for a house party.

I had 490 numbers on my list, but I also have a friend who is a fellow Obama supporter in my precinct, so we will be trying to get through the list together in one week. Their goal is to get all precincts done once through by the weekend, and then on to phase 2!

I was at a MeetUp tonight, and they said they have plans in place to canvass every house in our county in one day! :woohoo: This campaign is really organized!!!

9. It is a joy to work in because everyone is organized

and so professional.

We have a Captain's Coordinator who calls every two days or so to just see how you're doing and gives helpful suggestions.

Let's GO! Sign Up for Precinct Captain Everyone!
