Is arguing about EVERYTHING an inherently Democratic Party...'thing'?
So, I was reading the thread about line drying your clothes, which seemed like an innocuous enough topic to me. But lo and behold....175+ posts arguing, debating and discussing line drying clothes. Do you think this is an inherently Democrat trait? That people who are drawn to question, debate and argue are more likely to be Democrats? Or is it just a DU thing?

2. It's just a "thing."
There just are people who are hard-wired to debate and argue about everything. I'm related to one or two of them, and they can be exasperating.

They're not necessarily righties or lefties or political or anything, but just usually seem to be a certain personality type.

4. It's an Internet thing
Look at Freerepublic; they argue just as much if not more. It's just what people on Internet message boards do; the result of a combination of subjects people care about and relative anonymity

5. My Mom used to talk about her uncles arguing about politics all the time
Edited on Wed May-30-07 12:37 PM by Pirate Smile
while she was growing up.

The uncles (and her Dad) were the first generation born in America with both parents immigrants from Ireland. They had the Irish love of politics. She said it would practically get to the point of fists flying.

They were, of course, all Democrats.

8. Getting Dems to agree on anything is like herding cats.
You're never going to get them all in the same place at the same time, and the cats don't appreciate it.

10. People are at various stages of de-coding their relationships to
"the group", any group, that can be liberating, but I suspect it will be important to find out if they can re-code those relationships in personally functional and meaningful ways that integrate into somethig new or not . . . .

22. No. Agreeing on everything is a right-wing thing.
The people who can debate tend to be Dems, I imagine, and the environment here promotes fairly free expression.
