Anyone else lose MSNBC on Comcast today?
I did, and according to the TV screen all I have to do is upgrade to the more expensive digital package.

Gee thanks Comcrap. Later.. I'll be ordering satellite tomorrow. Idiots.

Gawd, what will I do without my KO fix?

2. I left Comcast

...years ago for Direct TV and have been a very happy camper.

I received 80 more channels for $30 less.

Comcast sucks.

Cheers

4. Ditto on the value of direcTV
Comcast digital cable is so horribly compressed and blocky (like an mpeg4) you might as well just wait for the program to show up on youtube, it's about the same quality.
Wow I feel like I need some money for that endorsement. :)

18. It can't be THAT bad.
Can it?

I guess I'll find out in a few days.

20. Only a slight exaggeration

Granted my experience with comcast was around 2003, but take a look at the "light pools" now on analog and you'll see blocks and banding and "squirmy backgrounds" on those kinds of images with smooth gradients of color on the new digital signal.

Perhaps they've upped the amount of bandwidth dedicated to their digital channels, but to me it was unwatchable on a even a 29" TV.

Only the premium channels seemed to look ok, like HBO ShO etc.

23. Yep, I've seen digital noise on my analog signal
and I'm annoyed by everyone else's digital signals. Guess I should be proud that I held out until the bitter end. Hopefully after they get everyone off of Analog they'll throw some more bandwidth at the digital signal.

Looks like AM radio will be the last analog signal in my lifetime. I don't do vinyl or tape any more, and my Laser Disc player is in deep, deep storage. So sad. :eyes:

21. I left them for Knology.
Phone, high-speed internet and cable for about $30 than I was paying for cable with Comcast.

6. Yep, I have regular on the non-livingroom TVs, and Digital on the livingroom one.
Yep, it definitely says it.

We ought to call and complain about this. MSNBC is one of three major news channels and should be available for everyone's use. You have to wonder at some level, whether this isn't some type of coy censorship.

7. You can't see it on the TVs that use analog cable? (edit)
Edited on Wed May-30-07 07:15 PM by hiaasenrocks
Maybe that's why I didn't see the problem described. I have digital.

Just curious...in what part of the country is this happening?

9. Denver here, and I didn't notice earlier in the day, just went into the other room...
and I noticed it when I flipped on MSNBC and it was there.

I think it is working on digital, just not on the regular analog cable. Why the hell did the decide to do this? Kind of out of no where with no real notice.

11. Interesting. I'm in SC. I'll call my aunt and uncle who have analog with Comcast.
Just so we can see how widespread this is.

I'll check back in a few...

12. It's not happening in SC. They said they hadn't rec'd any
notices or anything.

Maybe it's just regional, for now, but I'm sure Comcast will do it to everyone eventually.

16. Yes, that's what I wondered to myself. Just why the hell did they move it?
Greed is one motivation, but are the viewers of MSNBC more dedicated than CNN or Faux?

17. And CSPAN 2 BTW..
I just called.. If you pick up your own converter boxes the switch to digital is free. I'm just worried the quality is going to suck, I've heard stories.

8. I've been happy with Direct TV
and more channels have appeared than disappeared. In addition, the ones that vanished were the crummy home shopping ones I never watched.

I have a package deal with the phone company for DSL, Direct, land line and long distance. I have upgraded DSL and the upgraded TV channel package and it still runs me only $130/month. I know people with CONcast who are paying more for less.

The dish was worth it for Link TV, alone.

10. I've never gone with bundled packages.
One of my cousin gets his cable, phone and Internet(s) from Time-Warner. I asked him what happens if the service goes down, won't you lose everything? Two weeks later he changed. :)

13. This is a little different
because the land line and dish are separate systems. I don't have the pay per view nonsense so my Direct receiver is not connected to a phone line.

Time Warner is the same as CONcast, a cable company whose service is a little iffy and whose prices keep going up.

The only way I can lose everything is by stiffing them on the bill.

22. Mine don't.
I've had my Net go down, but the phone and cable still work. I've had the phone go down, but the others still work.

The fiber optics are different for differnt functions.

15. The big problem is I'm very happy with Comcast Cable Internet
Edited on Wed May-30-07 08:48 PM by tridim
I hate to say it, but I'll probably cave in a few days. Damn monopolies.

Edit: I just called, and the digital "box" is free and the monthly rate stays the same. So I'll give it a shot and if the quality sucks (which I fully expect), then I'll explore my options.

19. I don't want to change my Internet from Comcast,
but I certainly wouldn't mind getting FiOS TV from Verizon. I know my Internet bill would go up, but I don't get much on cable with what I'm paying.
