Have "the terrorists" won?
Edited on Thu Feb-01-07 02:34 PM by redqueen
Or, more accurately, have those who seek to promote a culture of fear won?

Does 24 (or shows like it) feed stuff like this?

(edited for clarity)

1. Maybe...
Bush certainly used terror to gain power. Of course, that's not working out so well for him now. Terror-fatigue may be setting in. I hope so anyway.

3. I would have thought so... about terror fatigue...
but judging from the reaction around here... that just is not the case.

5. Yes. The point of terrorism is to make people feel terror...
Edited on Thu Feb-01-07 02:23 PM by originalpckelly
I'd say that an entire nation flipping out over an advertisement is about the definition of terror.

7. There's no such thing as "the terrorists".
Terrorism is a tactic used by all sorts groups from left to right. Not an ideology.

Apologies in advance. I've never watched 24, probably never will. But, it irks me that "terrorism" and "the terrorists" are used as some kind of definition for groups or individuals that are using a tactic and can be as disparate as Nelson Mandela and the ANC to Aryan Nations.

8. Well, let's take a look.
They killed three thousand people on 9-11.

The nation turned collectively stupid overnight, doing stupid shit like banning John Lennon songs.

We went from being champions of human rights to torturing people at gitmo and Abu Ghraib.

They got us to curtail our own rights for them, with shit like the P.A.T.R.I.O.T. act.

They got us to re-elect a radical fundamentalist nutjob for president.

They got us to kill 3,000 more of our own troops, another 30,000 hurt.

They got us dumping a trillion dollars into a bottomless pit.

They got us bogged down in another Vietnam.

They got the whole world turned against us.

They got us freaking out over cartoons.

Looks to me like they got us.

13. Actually, going down your list
it was the republicans who were responsible for 2 thru 9. Terrorists were only responsible for 1. (And I'm not saying the repukes didn't have a hand it that, too.)

11. They won as soon as Americans said that they would trade
some of their rights for security.

So sad.
