Kos supports a Gore candidacy
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/2/1/151831/4719

"One reason I'm not jumping aboard any 2008 bandwagons is that I'll wait as long as necessary to see if Gore will jump in. That's ultimately my guy this cycle. And even though I don't think he'll run, he's really got all the time in the world to make a final decision.

"Gore was just nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, and while any schlub can get nominated, it's Gore's backers that make his bid impressive -- Conservative Member of the Norwegian Parliament Boerge Brende and Heidi Soerensen of the Socialist Left Party. It's rare trans-ideological support.

"The prize will be announced in mid-October. So say Gore scores an Oscar and Nobel in the same year, he can announce in November and still become THE story in the primaries. It's not as if he'll need the full year to get his name recognition up or make the case for his candidacy. He would instantly raise gobs of cash (I'd bet on tens of millions in the first 24 hours) and become the media sensation of the winter. He would instantly make hundreds of millions spent by his primary opponents obsolete. Talent would flock to him, decimating the staffs of his opponents."

24. Said it once, saying it again...
I would heartily support a Gore / head of cabbage '08 campaign. Hell, he could hitch Lieberman up to his wagon again and I still would give the ticket serious consideration.

I (heart) Gore

2. I wish Gore would run...
although I've got a feeling that he's serious about not doing so. However, if he were to throw his name in, then I think the above is correct that he'd definitely have the effect of "sucking all the oxygen out of the room" in a big way.

35. I heartily agree. Gore, with his movie winning an Oscar and him
getting a Nobel, well, can we say "steamroller"? Everyone else would be wasting their time. Please, please, please....we need Gore.

Edited on Thu Feb-01-07 04:09 PM by Mojambo
I don't even think he'd be aggressively attacked by most of the other candidates upon announcing.

I think just about everyone in the field would be happy to be selected as his running mate.

5. I am in Kos's camp as well. I can't think of any candidate with the total package
(from my perspective) who has announced already. KOS would be a great avenue for a draft Gore movement, no?

10. Plus he'll have the netroots to help him against the VRWC and MSM
Unlike 2000, lies against Gore won't be able to gain traction, thanks to legions of Kossacks and DUers.

8. Headline: Kos gets something right!
Kos can get lots of things really wrong -- like believing most talk of vote hacking being crazy conspiracy theory -- and some of his views on security issues.

But I'll give credit where credit is due: Gore is not only the most fomidable candidate we have, but the only one who has place the single most imporant issue of our time -- planetary survival -- at the center of his message.

9. I'm in total agreement
But I hope he doesn't wait until November. I'd like to see him declare in the spring or early summer.

My dream ticket? Gore/Feingold, but I'd be okay with Gore/Obama, Gore/Clark....heck, I'd be okay with Gore/Anybody-but-Lieberman!

13. The latest he can really wait is until roughly November
There are ballot deadlines for Iowa, New Hampshire and the other states. However, one other scenario is a brokered convention. If there is no clear nominee by convention-time, then Gore could become a compromise choice.

15. I hope it doesn't come down to that
I couldn't bear the suspense!

Everyone should try to find a draft Gore group in their area -- there are many across the country. I just hooked up with one the other night that has already filed with the FEC. The more I hear from people who have had contact with Al and Tipper and who otherwise have inside or educated knowledge, the more I think he's going to run.

20. He also says he doubts Gore will run:
Edited on Thu Feb-01-07 05:02 PM by smoogatz
"...as noted, I doubt he'll pull the trigger. There's no need for him to do so. His passion is fighting global warming, not social security solvency or extracting ourselves from Bush's myriad messes."

Of course, if the US is the number-one CO2 polluter (we are), Gore could probably do more to fix the problem as President than he could as a private citizen--having already done so much to raise public awareness of the seriousness of the problem. He could also probably be more effective at confronting global warming than any of the other candidates, since he's better acquainted with the issue and has an established track record as an advocate for change--rather than simply jumping on the bandwagon pre-election to satisfy the tree-hugger wing of the party.

39. I had once considered
printing all of these "Run, Al, Run" theads and diaries on DKos and DU, and sending them directly to Tipper Gore.

But then I realized that I would be printing REAMS worth of paper, and that doesn't really jive with the whole conservation movement.

That is so obvious, what is wrong with me? Do you remember when Al Gore started up with his climate change presentations again was still using a slideshow? Then he had an Aha! moment and went high-tech using animation and Keynote.

42. Yes, that much is correct
I disagree with Kos on just about everything, but I give credence to that particular prediction. If Gore enters the field the primaries are as good as over, in my opinion. And the general with him at the helm would probably be the easiest campaign to wage for the democrats.
