US helicopters thwart attack on Baghdad's Green Zone
03 Jun 2007 12:03:48 GMT

BAGHDAD, June 3 (Reuters) - U.S. Apache helicopters strafed
militants preparing to fire rockets into Baghdad's Green Zone, home
of Iraq's government and the U.S. embassy, and killed four gunmen,
the U.S. military said on Sunday.

The airstrike targeted militants southeast of Sadr City, a stronghold
of anti-American Shi'ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr's Mehdi Army militia,
late on Saturday night.

The sprawling Green Zone is the most heavily protected area in the
capital, but it has come under increasing mortar and rocket attack.
The attacks have also become more accurate and deadlier.

A Reuters journalist saw an air-to-ground missile fired during
Saturday's operation in which jets also circled above amid the sound
of heavy machinegun fire and explosions.

1. and this is good news?
the fact that they are so brazen and aggressive towards the most secure base in Iraq?

At least in VietNam, most of the south was friendly and supportive.

4. "At least in VietNam, most of the south was friendly and supportive."
"Friendly and supportive" by day. VC by night. Not all, but many.

But yes, the Green Zone has big problems including the fact that this rocket attack wa so brazenly attempted. I think this is the next phase: bombardments of the Emerald City with rockets and mortars. H&D: Harassment and demoralization.

2. They found some rockets during a raid and now are using it to spin their bombing
of Baghdad.

They can't seem to justify their bombing of civilians so are making up wild stories. The rockets were found a couple of days ago.

3. Could you please point me to the evidence of rockets found the other
day being the same rockets as of today and the story of the bombing today being aimed exclusively at civilians........thanks in advance.

5. Where is the evidence
that civilians were not bombed? Bombs were dropped on a city containing millions of people.

6. Ok so you don't have proof bombs were dropped exclusively on civilians?
I've been to Iraq twice, we occasionally hit bad guys without hitting any IZ civilians........just saying......

7. The article says the bombs were exclusively dropped on militants
who were all getting ready to attack the GreenZone. Very colorful.

Reality is that bombs were dropped on Sadr city which is a very crowded poor section of Baghdad. Bombs were dropped on a civilian city under US occupation.

8. I know Sadr City, I did a patrol or two near there.......
You still have yet to prove bombs were dropped exclusively on civilians, that the rockets were not really there, or that the bombs were not dropped on insurgents.......
