Poll question: If ANYONE Invades MY Country, I Will Have No Choice, except to
Edited on Sun Jun-03-07 11:38 AM by L. Coyote
Try to put yourself in the bare feet of someone else somewhere in the world, somewhere
people are contending with foreign invasion and occupation by military forces.

3. None of the above.
First of all, these polls are too apt to be used by those who would like to point out the "lack of patriotism" on this board.

But my answer would be, go about my business as usual. an invasion government would be more of the same bullshit, only run by different assholes.

Like, why is it that the shitheats who run our government now are assumed to be working in OUR interests? Hell no, 90% of them only care obout filling their own pockets.

I would view the occupation government with a very similar contempt with which I view our existing one.

7. Yup
My thoughts exactly.

I've clocked out of "patriotism," even a long time ago. The whole posturing of "resisting the occupation army" is laughable. Most people on these boards would gripe and fuss, but do nothing, just like they do now. Hell, a good number believe that the Bush admin is a coup, and many even believe that the Bush admin caused 9/11, "on purpose," as they say. And they do nothing.

This poll is a joke. If the occupation army didn't disrupt everyday affairs like shopping at the supermarket and taking your kids to the park, most people would grin and bear it. We would be no more alienated from the government than we are with the fake democracy we have now.

9. I totally agree with your post, but the thing that made me hover and not answer was this question:
What are their plans and what is the manner of their invasion? Is the invading force more enlightened? What is their ideology and are they trying to force it upon me? Should I even think about it?

These are things that sound somewhat like "lack of patriotism", but are what the rightwingers, neocons, freepers and such expect from the Iraqis...

4. where's the option for killing my fellow citizens?
I mean what about blowing people up while they eat, shop, or go to school. That wasn't one of your options, but it seems to be a popular thing to do.

8. I would do several of the choices
I think I would resist AND try to learn the potentially new language and culture to be better communicate and understand my enemy as well as to be better prepared for whatever was to come should my side lose the battle. I would also look into leaving as a last resort.

10. Depends on who "our government" is at the time...
If it is still the present "government" - then I would probably support our LIBERATORS, just as the French and Europeans did to us during WWII...

It all depends on WHO the "we" are and WHO the "they" are...

Despite the answers on this poll, very few have done anything to resist the fascist invaders who have occupied our White House for nearly seven years now, nor to stop them from imprisoning and killing our people, raiding our treasury and completely destroying the very foundation of our country.

17. We are Being Invaded ...
... but it is not a military invasion.

And, this is what is actually happening today: "Start taking language lessons to prepare for the cultural transformation."

The language is Spanish and the cultural transformation is everywhere.

30. There still is hope then: "the cultural transformation is everywhere."
Meanwhile, those speaking Spanish for about 500 years now think of the English as the
recent wave of European invasions. They overthrew church, slavery, and the Spanish
at the same time. Shortly thereafter, the USA invaded, and Lincoln cried foul:

From: http://www.jqjacobs.net/writing/fa_part2.html

"Any people anywhere, being inclined and having the power, have the right to rise up, and shake off the existing government, and form a new one that suits them better. This is a most valuable--a most sacred right--a right, which we hope and believe, is to liberate the world,"
Abraham Lincoln, speech in the U.S. House of Representatives, subject: The War on Mexico. Delivered January 12, 1848.

At about the time of that statement this very hilltop was under siege by United States troops. The Palace defenders including military cadets numbered a mere 800. President Polk defended his ordering the Mexican invasion, but Lincoln had this to say about what provoked the hostility,

"The marching of an army into the midst of a peaceful Mexican settlement, frightening the inhabitants away, leaving their growing crops and their property to destruction, to you may appear a perfectly amiable, peaceful, unprovoking procedure; but it does not appear so to us. So to call such an act, to us appears no other than a naked, impudent absurdity...the war was unnecessarily and unconstitutionally commences by the President."
A. Lincoln, July 27, 1848.

"...refusing to accept a cessation of territory, would be to abandon all our just demands, and to wage the war, bearing all the expense, without a purpose or definite object."
President Polk.

On Feb. 2, 1848, the Guadalupe Hidalgo Treaty was signed. Mexico conceded Texas, California, and the Territory of New Mexico for 15 million pesos. Today that many pesos will buy $35,714.28 U.S.-- one cheap tract home.

19. To tell the truth I almost couldn't be madder IF they were foreign
invaders. I feel like aliens invaded and took over my government. I hate guns. I kinda feel like we'd all be safer if no one had them. My young son on the other hand is enamored of weapons. His room is full of pistols, I think called glocks, and some large automatic machine gun looking things. I'm scared shitty of them. He has asked me to go to the range for practice. I'm scared to do that but I think it is something we could do as a family. (Sickening, huh) In my heart of hearts I'd like to go to the shooting range and fire off a few rounds. Gad, I'm ADD I get off the point faster than a pothead. Anyway if someone were coming to invade my home in my dreams I'd go down shooting. And to tell the truth, I think the 2nd amendment is designed for the people to have protection against Big Brother. We don't have to let a corrupt government take us over. Say, if it were something like the Occupation of Iraq. Those folks are gun lovers, shootin' it up at weddings and celebrations. Seems like a lot of families have firearms under the bed. My god, I can't think of anything more dangerous than going house to house kicking in doors of ordinary people whom just happen to have an automatic rifle under the bed. I'm surprised our poor uniformed men and women haven't kicked in more doors where the dad or mom is sitting in the recliner with the weapon locked and loaded, sprays them in a hailstorm of bullets. They know the house is going to be turned upside down and all males over 14 plus the dad are going to be taken off to be tortured. I'd sure the fuck hope I'd go down fighting. Only seems patriotic to me. Fighting FOR my country. BTW Why don't we quit this house to house business...it's dangerous and messy. This is when you use the gasses. You know those nice, quiet gasses which put everyone to sleep forever and leaves the infrastructure and building intact. Remember that when they were developed it was thought to be state of the art war. Kill the people leave the buildings. It would sure as hell keep our boys and girls safer. Then we could hang George just like Saddam. End of rant:rant: See what you get for getting me started.

32. Canada should invade and annex the West Coast.
Edited on Sun Jun-03-07 02:59 PM by Cleita
Look what you get, three states that are mostly liberal, one state, California, that is the sixth largest economy in the world and all those warm climates in the south to vacation in a lot of military hardward and installations. We get good social programs and real government by the people. Also, our liberals should be able to vote out your conservatives in the forseeable future. It's a win, win for all of us. The only problem would be Washington. D. C.. However, when the other states see how well we are doing under Canada, they might just petition to join us. That would leave Bush and all the other neo-conservatives and "K" Street criminals sitting all alone there with nothing to govern.

35. ... greet them with flowers and candy.
Edited on Sun Jun-03-07 05:19 PM by Make7
If ANYONE Invades MY Country, I Will Have No Choice, except to greet them with flowers and candy.

My assumption would be that anyone invading my country would only reluctantly be doing so for the benefit of myself and the rest of the citizens of the country and the world.

I would offer myself as a guide to hunt down the stockpiles of WMD so they could be eliminated as a threat to the peace and security of the world. But perhaps most importantly, I would be sure to exercise my new found right to vote in a free and fair election. (Overseen by the occupation forces to ensure there is no chance of any intimidation occurring.)

I would rejoice at the prospect of being liberated from the illegal head of the current regime - finally the wanton disregard for human rights and international law would be coming to an end.

When can I be expecting this invasion to happen?

- Make7

36. "My country, right or wrong" seems to be the typical thinking of DUers in this poll
What I'd be most likely to do would depend on what the previous leadership of my country was like.
If you had been in Uganda under Idi Amin, you might well have welcomed the invaders - or in Cambodia under Pol Pot.

Anyway, who is forcing me to have no other choice? I suspect I'll have several choices.
