Anyone notice Gore added to candidate polling, negatively affects Edwards' Numbers?
Gore, who is not yet an announced candidate, has been added to many polls lately of the Democratic frontrunners. When Gore is added, it appears Edwards' numbers dip. When Gore is not included it appears Edwards' numbers go up about the same amount.

It appears what we are seeing is Edwards and Gore share a lot of the same supporters reflected in the polling.

More importantly, it appears if Gore is not running the frontrunners Clinton and Obama pull less of those supporters than Edwards, but if Gore is added he draws support away from Clinton and Obama.

Anyone else notice these trends?

1. Al Gore's numbers are probably going to screw the real candidates'
fundraising efforts. He should put a stop to this nonsense once and for all.

12. Run or concretely rule it out
I don't care much either way, but the dude will start hurting the other candidates sooner or later if big donors are hanging onto their cash on the off chance that he runs.

15. No one told the candidates to announce TWO Years before the election
This is part of the media circus that he outlined in his book Assult On Reason

I think he will announce after the Nobel Prizes

he delivered an intensely dull powerpoint lecture on a wholly unoriginal topic. how in god's name does he deserve a nobel prize?

3. I like both of them and if they were the primary choices
it would a difficult choice for me.

4. So do I. Either would be a good President. They just appear to be sharing supporters...
It is interesting to note that Gore's numbers are likely higher than presently reflected since many polled respondents will not name a 'non-candidate' as their choice, and therefore their votes might shift in larger numbers if Gore were an 'announced candidate.'

IMHO Gore and Edwards would hit the same demographics and political factions.

6. If he waits too long, the "money" advantage of the other candidates may hinder his efforts
I hope he runs

After reading his book Assult On Reason, he has grown so much since 2000

After what the country did to him in 2000, the country doesn't deserve him, but it sure as heck needs him

10. True, but he is the only candidate that could erase that disadvantage in a hurry....
I think his fundraising apparatus is still in place.

However, it would create some real confusion inside the Democratic Party. Some supporters who have pledged financial support to Clinton & Obama & Edwards would likely go to Gore. Interfere with the money flow, and you are sure to have some public 'dustups.'

He's trying to ACT like Dean, but he hardly has the bona fides.

9. Edwards' and Gore's stances on issues are almost exactly the same, however...
When it comes to public identification of issues associated with both candidates there are differences.

In that sense, they each might reach different voting blocks in ways the other cannot.

For example, Gore is identified with global warming and Edwards is identified with combating poverty. However both candidates are the same on both issues.

11. Anyone have info showing the relationship in polling numbers between Gore & Hillary?
I would suspect that the split of voters between Clinton and Gore as their top two choices would break toward Gore. Maybe not by a whole lot, but definitely in his favor.

14. Just a theory, but it seems logical.
People who support Edwards would be the at the same time
supporters of Gore. Searchers of real Democrats.

At least with me, they are the ones that I support without hesitation and/reservation ... it would be a VERY difficult decision for me to make if gore enters the race

26. I think CNN's adding Gore to the polling does both Gore/Edwards a disservice...
An unannounced candidate against announced candidates never polls the numbers that they would if they were announced.

However, in this situation the Gore affect on Edwards may be taking away voters that would be inclined to vote Edwards in a poll of announced candidates.
