I don't find it hard to be a Democrat lately, and I'm never going to stop being a Democrat.

I just wish the people "representing us" in Washington, D.C. would stop calling themselves Democrats and start acting like Democrats again.

Those people in Washington, D.C. aren't the Democratic Party, we are.

It's time to realize that.

We are all probably to one degree or another disappointed that they haven't held up their end of the bargain. I think that's why we're all mad and stepping on each other's toes of late.

We shouldn't be mad at each other, we should be mad at them. They're the ones who screwed up, not us.

We did all we could last election to get them into power, and now they've betrayed us, and it really isn't the first time this has happened. They were lied to, but they still cannot escape their responsibility for casting votes in favor of the Iraq War Resolution, and Fmr. Senator Daschle ought to be ashamed as he co-sponsored the IWR.

We didn't vote for the "Patriot Act", they did.

Yes, there were exceptions in all cases, but they screwed up.

It's time we hold them accountable, next election we need to forward primary challenges for anyone who voted for this crap.

In the House we might very well get a whole deck of real Democrats, in the Senate it's going to be harder, obviously because of the classing.

1. Yes, we need to clean House (and Senate) and take our party
back from the Wall Street Dems, the Blue Dog Dems, the Third Way Dems, the New Democrats, and the DLC. You know, the Eisenhower Repugs turned conservative Democrats. We're going to have to do it the hard way, by encouraging good people to run against them in the primaries, by coughing up cash we can ill afford to support these challenges, and to try to get the conservatives voted out of office and onto the unemployment line.

That's all we can do. There is no alternative at this point.

2. I thought about this the other day...

I bet most of the people who were around in the '90s before the Republicans took control are still there, at least in the Senate, if not also in the House.

We have a broken system, but we can work within what's left of it to get it working again. We need to use the power of primaries to throw the bums out, and then work on ending this bullshit allowing people to redistrict politically and gerrymander districts. I want Democrats to win in all of these districts, but I know they won't give a shit so long as they think they have little chance of losing an election they choose to run in. If there was real competition in ideas and quality of representation in Washington, D.C. then they would have to get better or have their asses canned.

3. We Have Met The Enemy - And They Is Us
We keep supporting this crap. Two of the top three presidential contenders pushed the war, 'free' trade with China, both 'Patriot Acts', and so forth. And even people on DU get steamed if one brings this up, as if it's mean to cite actual past actions.

Feh. We're going to Hell in a handbasket.

4. We're not attacking Democrats, we're attacking people who say they're Democrats...

and then act like a bunch of moderate or even conservative Republicans.

Moderation is not wanting what the other party stands for, it is wanting what we stand for and being willing to compromise with the other side to get it. That's something we simply don't understand, and that's what has allowed these people to thrive.

5. True that. Do you think we will be able to get anything real done without TRANSPARENT ELECTIONS?
Jesus Christ could run against Hitler and lose on a Black Box Voting machine.

The first step to returning power to the people is to make sure the people's voice at the ballot box is heard.

Then we can have a vote on public financing and getting the parasitic corporations out of our Government.

6. Indeed, a lot of these "Democrats" took money from questionable sources...
one that comes to mind is the RIAA, you know the little fascists running around suing 11 year olds for pirating music. I think it's wrong, but in no way should any reasonable company be suing someone so young.
