Did it surprise anyone when Hillary took the lead tonight?
She challenged Wolf on the hypotheticals. She's actually being praised for that on the CNN post debate analysis. They're saying that all the others were looking to her for leadership during the debate.

1. Oh pulleeez.....
the only thing she led was the parade out to the stage.

What do you think they are going to say about THEIR chosen one?

But she did take the lead, IMHO. I am surprised that CNN is complimenting her for dissing Wolf. She is still not my pick. However, I think she did earn some points tonight.

7. I was surprised when she challenged Wolf on it
as a Hillary supporter, I wondered how it would come across - but based on what I've been reading on DU and hearing on TV, it was a good thing to do. But I do disagree that the others were looking to her for leadership - she just asserted herself, not because the others needed her to.

16. I make no secrret of the fact that I like her
but she is not my chosen candidate - yet.

I want Clark to join the race, and I really want to see Obama do well.

But I was impressed by Clinton tonight. I think she's doing what I always believed she can do - alleviate the concerns people have about her and come across as strong, smart, capable and wise. I think she did that very well tonight.

The reason I've always liked her is because she has a long history of just blowing past people's expectations of her - and I think she's continuing to do that.

3 out of 4 definitely, but too much of a DINO to be 'wise' IMO. Triangulating is not wise, it is 'clever'. Color me ABH in the primaries, except for Gravel who has no shot.

I think it's wise to understand what it takes to win.

I also think she showed great wisdom in general in her answers about diplomacy.

The whole argument over whether she's smart or calculating depends entirely on whether or not one is willing to view her objectively. If you hate her, she's calculating. If you like her, she's wise. That's normal, though.

56. I think it is wise to know
that winning isn't everything. If it is necessary for a Democrat to become a Republican in order to win, then that is a very hollow victory.

Especially if it loses Congress for us, like, er, the last Clinton Presidency did. Myself, I would like to have a candidate who can come to my district and help my local Democrats win re-election. If Hillary is the candidate though, then I think it would hurt to link yourself to her, at least in my district and state.

Liking her is not being objective. Nor does hatred does not prove a lack of objectivity. Take Bush (please). I hate him because I looked at him and found him to be an arrogant liar. The lies and the arrogance came before the hate, not the other way around.

It is typical of America though, for people to conflate 'clever' with 'wise'. The farking dictionary even makes them synonyms :wtf:

Still, I was impressed by her brains and her guts tonight. I always knew she had them. She has not always used them in the past and that is why I am not a supporter.

36. I was impressed with her performance
I was especially struck by her maneuver after Obama took that shot at Edwards about being "four-and-a-half years too late in showing leadership": she delivered a stirring little generality about how the differences between Democrats are as nothing compared to the diferences between Democrats and Republicans. It made her look calm and above personal acrimony.

she might as well have been a republican up there. That said, I think she did a good job over all, and I really liked her standing up to Wolf about hypotheticals, her Cheney zinger was great, and I liked her stressing diplomacy when it came to Iran... she has sounded far too hawkish on Iran to me. I am not a fan of hers, but she's certainly gone up a notch for me ... which of course means diddly to anyone but me :) Everyone on that stage is so far above anything the Repubs have to offer!

Obama still has the edge as far as I'm concerned .. and then Edwards.

hypothetical rhetoric doesn't make this nation safe or secure!!

and her saying so over and over doesn't answer a thing..and i don't think anyone was looking to her for leadership..that is nonsence..they were all there trying to score their own points..end of story..

personally i thought Edwards showed more leadership than Hillary saying over and over ..hypothetical..

EDWARDS TOOK RESPONSIBILITY FOR HIS VOTE FOR THIS WAR..STRONGLY..HE ADMITTED HIS MISTAKES..

Hillary still hangs onto the ..i looked at the info..well the hell she did..and Edwards admitted he made mistakes..that is what this current admins never does take responsibility...

I did appreciate her remarks about hypotheticals; she was absolutely correct to speak up about it.

She didn't lead the discussion, and her positions don't lead anybody on that stage. She was given more opportunity than many to establish herself as "leading," it's true. More questions and more speaking time don't make her a leader, though. They make CNN complicit in corrupting the election process.
