7. I agree, except that the Cons are calling this guy the "next Reagan"
Ronald Reagan was just a divorced man for Pete's sake -- not a divorced man who then did a lot of womanizing before settling on a much younger second wife. It's the hypocrisy that galls me ... Can't wait to hear what Lorie Morgan has to say about ol' Fred ...

A bit of background for the yungunz among us: > http://www.rossde.com/editorials/edtl_Reagan.html

"...the one issue of Reagan's administration that sticks most strongly in my mind is how he attempted to cut funding for school lunches for children living in poverty. After all, the schools all had ketchup; and, according to Reagan, ketchup is a vegetable. Therefore, funding to ensure school lunches were balanced by including vegetables was unnecessary."

I always recall the cheese lines as well as the generosity of making sure poor kids had ketchup. > http://www.commondreams.org/views04/0617-06.htm

"Reagan's response to the 1981-1982 recession, the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression, was to declare ketchup a vegetable, release federal cheese surpluses, and shackle the strike leaders of the air traffic control union hand and foot and lead them off to jail. My most pronounced memories of the Reagan years are the three hour cheese line and the German care packages to unemployed workers in Detroit. In the first two years of the Reagan administration, his policy was a forced economic recession and de-industrialization of the United Stated. He cut federal low income housing funds by 84%; his tax cuts for the rich, his “trickle-on” the poor and working class economics ended up tripling all previously existing U.S. government debt. So, when I think of the Reagan legacy, I think of urban decay, crack, homelessness, racism, rampant corporatism and the destruction of the American dream. Amidst the growing homelessness and despair, I remember seeing graffiti all over inner-city Detroit that simply said: “Ronald Wilson Reagan 666.” Reagan’s policies so marked him as “the beast” in Detroit, blue-collar workers actually cheered when he was shot. The hottest song on underground radio was “Hinckley had a Vision.” The song’s refrain, “He knew, he knew.” When the mainstream media was analyzing Reagan's legacy and actively participating in the mythologizing of the 40th president, they conveniently ignored volumes of work by mainstream reporters."

In all fairness to Reagan, cheese is a complete/balanced meal, and can provide shelter in a pinch from what I gather? :sarcasm:

22. "not a divorced man who then did a lot of womanizing before settling on a much younger second wife"
That's just not right. Really. What makes you think he just "settled" for her?? I find this statement disturbing. Very disturbing. Maybe there are people out there that just settle for someone else, but I could never do it. "Settled" makes it sound like you could have had a steak, but chose a hamburger instead...... and this is coming from a 44 year old, overweight guy that was dating a 24 year old Hooters girl, one of the most beautiful women I've ever dated... but she wanted kids and mine are almost grown.... I'm not ready to go there again, and never will be.

27. Oh, Je-sus Ch-rist! Did ANY of you read THIS part of his post.
"It's the hypocrisy that galls me"

It's not that Fred married a younger woman or that Kuchinich married a younger woman. Fred claims to be all "Family Values" and then ignores them when it comes to his own personal life. He's a fake!

Kuchinich married a woman even younger than himself, but wasn't this his first marriage? How many times has he pretended to represent "Traditional Family Values" which are nothing more than a set of unrealistic rules?

It's not the act, it's the HYPOCRISY, people!

37. Did you reply to the wrong post? I don't see anything in this response
that has a thing to do with what I asked, but since I have your attention, do you have anything to say about this "settling" matter? Did you, or anyone you know "just settle" for your partner? If you're single, would you "just settle" for someone?

I'm trying to get visualize the internal thought process of this. "Well let's see here, s/he's* got an irritating voice that reminds me of fingernails across a chalkboard, s/he gets drunk and beligerent every day, can't hold an intelligent conversation, can't tie his/her own shoelaces or walk and chew bubblegum at the same time, but goddammit, s/he's just so damned cute and s/he's 20 something years younger than me, so I guess I can live with it...."......... sound about right??

*Fictional person. I'm NOT a mindreader and don't know if this is anything remotely close to anyone's thoughts. I'm not responsible for any similarities to the actual thought processes of any person, living or dead, who may have thought like this. No minds were read during the making of this post. Or were they?

49. No, Kucinich had been divorced for about 20 years when he met his current wife
It's the visuals that are different. Thompson looks way older than his wife, and Kucinich looks at most 10 years older than his wife.

Granted, there was not a vast age difference between Reagan and Nancy The Witch In Red, but he did a lot of catting after his divorce from Jane Wyman

Dennis's wife is a beautiful, brilliant progressive who, I believe, is largely responsible for taking a moderate Dem and turning him into a real progressive candidate.

.....don't insult truck stop waitresses. Jerri Thompson could only wish to look that classy.

That's the difference between Thompson's young bride and Kucinich's ~~ Fred's has -0- class and Dennis's is ALL class.

It's not the age difference, who cares about that, it is what KIND of woman each man chose.

of GOP candidates, at least superficially (not counting Ron Paul).

of course, when you scratch beneath the surface, he is as much a corporate stooge as Bush, Mit, Goolie, or the assorted Jethros running for the GOP nomination.

47. The Thompson visuals are a little creepy
Thompson and his wife are actually closer in age than Dennis and Elizabeth. Their pictures tell a completely different visual story, though. Remember that as a young adult, Kucinich was often mistaken for a newsboy. The flip side of that is that thirty years later as a senior citizen he looks like a vigorous young adult.
