Question for every Dem & GOP candidate: what percent of oil wealth should Iraqis get to keep?
Won't it create more not less hatred of the US if they feel we are screwing them on behalf of the oil companies?

An even more painful follow up: why do we get less for oil taken from under our country than ANY of those Arab countries?

1. It's their oil, isn't it? If I have something to sell, I expect to keep 100 %
of the sale price. Of course, later I will have to pay approprite taxes on the income from the sale (if it is taxable).

If the oil is under Iraqi land, then it belongs to the Iraqis and they, not anyone else or any other country or entity, are entitled to the income from it.

2. This is a good question. In reality, it should be up to the Irqi govt
to decide how much of the oil revenue they keep. I'm assuming that Irqi's on an individual level won't see a penny, but the oil revenue will help to rebuild infrastructure, schools, general sevices, etc... essentially setting up social services with the revenue. It would make more sense for them to negotiate contracts with the corporate sharks i.e... the Iraqi govt pays a set percentage of revenue for the people running the oil fields and they pocket the rest. Or they could figure it out themselves, which I'm sure they know how to do since they were doing it under Saddam, and they could kick Exxon and Shell and BP right on out of the country.

And.. the USA is set up as corporate conglomerates. Not one coporate entity gives money back to people... not water, roads, jail, etc... But the corporate oil machine (and all businesses) theoretically give back to the people through taxation and by employing people to work at the company. Unfortunately, the repug congress gave the oil company huge tax breaks... and they went to town collecting record profits. Isn't it nice how war has worked to our advantage. I really think the Iraq war was about collecting oil and pushing up the price with instability. I don't think it was designed to be a quick war.
