Where Were All the Republicans During Tuesday's Senate Judiciary Hearing?
None Bothered to Show Up for the Schlozman/Graves Testimony, We Tried to Find Out Why...

Guest Blogged by BRAD BLOG's D.C. Correspondent Margie Burns

A quick post following up on last Tuesday's Senate Judiciary hearing with witnesses Schlozman and Graves. While I attended the hearing, not many Senators did. While at least half of the Democratic Senators on the committee showed up, no Republican Senators bothered to get there at all during the entire session. It seemed worthwhile to see if I could find out why.

I telephoned the offices of the 9 Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee, to ask why they didn’t attend and to see what, if any, comments I could get from them...

pretty amazing how the M$M is ignoring all the important stories, like this one, and the Thor Hearn fiasco, isn't it?

2. Yup...

Well, "amazing", unfortunately, isn't the word I'd use, since it's no surprise any more.

"Incredible", however, would continue to describe it.

3. predictably nauseating, now that you mention it; not even incredible, as that
implies difficulty in believing

nothing infuriates me more than the whole construct that there's some sort of liberal media cabal that puts the fearless rightwing patriots at daily risk

4. Ostrich syndrome?
If they don't see it, it doesn't exist?
or. .
They want to promulgate the idea that the hearings were "beneath them"?
or. . .
They ran out of softballs?

It's actually a good question.

5. I chalked it up to an instruction from on high
To not show up and make this look like a Democratic witch hunt. Sessions was properly pissed off at the previous hearings, having been a USA, so I almost believe he was at a funeral. The rest? A bunch of weasels playing politics.

6. Our government...
has come apart like a cheap watch.

There is not even a pretense that there is good governance any longer. As a citizen, one must be willfully ignorant in order to not see what has happened.

7. Compare to Goodling
TV was there BIG time. Goodling also needed help- which she got in spades, including a totally irrelevant attack on Murtha. The GOP was there strategically and is not there this time, also strategically. The cameras almost operate exactly as the expected GOP response. Not a surprise and objectively normal for legislative and party process. There is nothing however like being able to control the media spigots to enable this every single time according to GOP need. If the press is there in force, the GOP has to speak up even when it would be preferable for them not to. it makes it very hard to put them on the spot in Congress. When the speeches by Dems THEN go through the media, the media spins and GOP talking points further ruin any glimmer of confrontation or accountability.
