Had enough of Glen Beck's hate-disguised-as-commentary? TAKE ACTION!

The Washington post is considering adding him to its radio lineup. Apparently, the folks there think Beck is cordial and likeable when making vile smears.
"The article quoted Jim Farley, vice president of news for Bonneville, as saying that the station is in need of "more conversational elements" and also included quotes from Joel Oxley, Bonneville's top local executive, who stated, "Beck is an interesting guy. ... He does a good job in some other markets."

tell the Washington Post you're done with them in both print and radio if they take the step in pandering to the the fringe right by hiring Beck.

Some of Beck's greatest hits:
-On the March 15 broadcast of his radio show, The Glenn Beck Program, Beck said: "Hillary Clinton cannot be elected president because ... there's something about her vocal range." He went on to say, "There's something about her voice that just drives me -- it's not what she says, it's how she says it," adding, "She is like the stereotypical -- excuse the expression, but this is the way to -- she's the stereotypical bitch, you know what I mean?" Beck subsequently qualified his statement: "I never said that Hillary Clinton was a bitch. I said she sounded like one."
-On the March 21 broadcast of his radio show, Beck called Rosie O'Donnell, co-host of ABC's The View, a "fat witch," claimed that O'Donnell has "blubber ... just pouring out of her eyes," and asked, "Do you know how many oil lamps we could keep burning just on Rosie O'Donnell fat?" On the March 23 edition of his radio show, Beck said, "I'm a little ashamed" for calling O'Donnell "a fat witch" -- then added, "But she's so fat."
-On the February 28 edition of CNN Headline News' Glenn Beck, while discussing racy photos of American Idol contestant Antonella Barba, Beck asked his female guest: "I've got some time and a camera. Why don't you stop by?"
On the November 14, 2006, edition of his CNN Headline News program, Beck said to Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), the first Muslim ever elected to Congress: "OK. No offense, and I know Muslims. I like Muslims. ... With that being said, you are a Democrat. You are saying, 'Let's cut and run.' And I have to tell you, I have been nervous about this interview with you, because what I feel like saying is, 'Sir, prove to me that you are not working with our enemies.' "
-On the August 9, 2006, edition of his CNN Headline News program, Beck aired a segment mocking the names of several missing Egyptian students in which the announcer said that one "may or may not be accompanied by his camel." The segment showed pictures of crowds and pointed to random, unidentifiable people as the missing Egyptians. It ended with a reading of the students' names in quick succession followed by the announcer pretending to gag as he struggled to pronounce them.
-On the January 10, 2006, broadcast of his radio show, Beck called anti-war protester Cindy Sheehan "a pretty big prostitute," later amending, at the behest of his executive producer, Steve "Stu" Burguiere, that "tragedy pimp" would be "the most accurate description."

---------------
In addition, Beck has joked on-air about killing Michael Moore, has joked in print about Helen Thomas' death, made fat jokes about Elizabeth Edwards throught the 2004 campaign and organized pro-war rallies and premature "victory" celbrations for the Bush administration in 2003.

7. Beck threatened muslims with concentration camps
Edited on Fri Jun-08-07 08:38 PM by Adenoid_Hynkel
The New York Times (12/4/06), profiling new CNN Headline News host Glenn Beck, called him "brash" and "opinionated," with an "unfiltered approach." The conservative talk-radio host-turned-cable news announcer, the paper reported, "takes credit for saying what others are feeling but are afraid to say."

The Times mentioned one of the things Beck has said recently, to newly elected U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.), a Muslim: "Sir, prove to me that you are not working with our enemies." But as press critic Eric Alterman pointed out (Altercation, 12/4/06), as offensive as that question is, it doesn't begin to suggest the poisonousness of Beck's rhetoric about Muslims.

On his August 10 radio show, distributed by Clear Channel's Premiere Radio Networks, Beck told listeners, "The world is on the brink of World War III," then issued this warning:

All you Muslims who have sat on your frickin' hands the whole time and have not been marching in the streets and have not been saying, 'Hey, you know what? There are good Muslims and bad Muslims. We need to be the first ones in the recruitment office lining up to shoot the bad Muslims in the head.' I'm telling you, with God as my witness... human beings are not strong enough, unfortunately, to restrain themselves from putting up razor wire and putting you on one side of it. When things—when people become hungry, when people see that their way of life is on the edge of being over, they will put razor wire up and just based on the way you look or just based on your religion, they will round you up. Is that wrong? Oh my gosh, it is Nazi, World War II wrong, but society has proved it time and time again: It will happen.

19. Here is a link to a list of Beck's sponsors.
http://tinyurl.com/ytl3m6

As a result of finding this list in April I sent the following letter to AARP. I received a letter back saying they were sorry I was cancelling my membership and not mentioning my reason at all. I'm not sure that we can make a difference but at least we can say we tried.

April 16, 2007

Ms. Bonnie M. Cramer
VP, Membership
AARP
601 E Street NW
Washington, DC 20049

Dear Ms. Cramer:

This morning I sat down to balance my checkbook and write checks for my bills. In my stack of bills to be paid was the renewal of my AARP membership. But before getting to work, I decided to spend a little time surfing the web. While reading about the Don Imus scandal I stumbled across a site complaining that Glen Beck was just as foul-mouthed and hateful in his rhetoric as Mr. Imus and urging people to let the sponsors of Mr. Beck’s show know that his behavior was just as unacceptable as Mr. Imus’. As I scanned the list of Mr. Beck’s sponsors I was shocked to see AARP.

As I don’t watch TV, I live in a bit of a cocoon. I had heard Mr. Beck’s outrageous comments to Representative Ellison when those comments made the news on NPR, but was basically ignorant about the depth and breadth of his nastiness. In preparing to write this letter I read many of his comments. They made me cringe. I truly despair for my country when people such as Mr. Beck are able to obtain a large following of listeners and viewers and the sponsorship of organizations such as AARP.

I am unwilling to be a member of an organization that sponsors the violent rhetoric and divisiveness spewed by Mr. Beck. Until such time as AARP discontinues it sponsorship of Mr. Beck I will not renew my membership. I believe AARP does an important service with its educational publications for seniors and, despite having disagreed with some past positions taken by AARP, until now I felt that membership was a benefit to me. Please inform me if you decide to discontinue your association with Mr. Beck. I will be happy to renew my membership at that time.

Regards,

freefall

22. Whats wrong with the statment to the Americna Idol girl.
She’s hot, he was just making a comment. I don't support Beck, but its not very liberal to get upset about a comment that’s barely sexually suggestive…. I thought everyone here was for free media, regardless how disgusting and horrible the people behind it are.
